Residents across Mindanao should brace for generally fair but unstable weather conditions over the next 24 hours, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that easterlies will continue to affect the region, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

In its 5:00 a.m. forecast for April 23, PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) said that while much of the day may begin with fair weather, localized thunderstorms are expected to develop, particularly in the afternoon and evening. These weather disturbances may trigger flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Widespread but Isolated Rainfall

Across the Zamboanga Peninsula—including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City—temperatures will range from 23°C to 33°C, with intermittent rainshowers or thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.

Similar weather patterns will prevail in Northern Mindanao, covering Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental. Temperatures here will range from a cooler 18°C in upland Bukidnon to around 34°C in lowland and coastal areas.

In the Davao Region, including Davao City and neighboring provinces, temperatures may peak at 34°C, with thunderstorms likely to develop intermittently.

SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, BARMM Also Affected

The same weather system will impact SOCCSKSARGEN provinces such as North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, where temperatures could reach up to 35°C, the highest in the region.

Meanwhile, in the Caraga Region—including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands—residents can expect similar conditions, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 35°C.

Areas under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperature ranges here vary from 23°C to 35°C.

Sea Conditions and Winds

PAGASA reported that winds across Mindanao will be light to moderate, blowing from the east to southeast. Coastal waters will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters, making it generally safe for small sea vessels, although caution is advised during thunderstorms.

Advisory

While no large-scale weather disturbance such as a tropical cyclone is currently affecting the country, PAGASA emphasized that localized thunderstorms remain dangerous, capable of producing sudden heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds.

Residents, especially those in flood-prone and landslide-susceptible areas, are urged to stay alert, monitor updates, and take precautionary measures as conditions may rapidly change.

PAGASA continues to monitor the situation and advises the public to stay tuned to official forecasts for updates.
