PLARIDEL, Misamis Occidental — A 23-year-old carpenter was arrested after police seized five firearms and ammunition during the implementation of a search warrant in Barangay Bato, Plaridel, Misamis Occidental, on August 18, 2026.

Personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Unit (PFU), together with other police units, conducted the operation under Oplan Paglalansag Omega, the police campaign targeting loose firearms.

The search was carried out pursuant to a search warrant issued in connection with an alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Authorities identified the arrested individual as a 23-year-old carpenter and resident of Purok Malinis, Barangay Bato.

Police said the search resulted in the recovery of several firearms and firearm-related items from the area.

Among the items seized were a .357-caliber revolver, one .357-caliber ammunition, an improvised shotgun, and a metal magazine for a 12-gauge shotgun.

Authorities also recovered three additional .357- and .38-caliber revolvers that were described as disassembled or incomplete.

The suspect, along with the seized items, was brought to the CIDG Misamis Occidental PFU office for documentation and proper disposition of the evidence.

Police are preparing a case for an alleged violation of Section 28 of Republic Act No. 10591, which will be submitted for inquest proceedings before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.

The operation forms part of the police campaign against unauthorized possession and proliferation of loose firearms, particularly those that may pose a threat to public safety.

Authorities have not provided further details on how the firearms came into the possession of the suspect or whether any of the recovered weapons had previously been used in another criminal incident.

The allegations against the arrested individual remain subject to the appropriate legal proceedings, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
