MINDANAO — Partly cloudy to cloudy skies, isolated rainshowers and localized thunderstorms are expected across Mindanao over the next 24 hours, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

In its Regional Weather Forecast for Mindanao (MINPRSD) issued at 5:00 a.m. on August 18, 2026, PAGASA said the forecast is valid from 5:00 a.m. Tuesday until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The weather agency said most areas of Mindanao may experience periods of partly cloudy to cloudy skies interrupted by rainshowers or thunderstorms. While the rainfall is expected to be generally localized, PAGASA cautioned that thunderstorms can become severe and may produce sudden heavy rain capable of causing flooding and landslides, particularly in areas with poor drainage, steep terrain and communities near rivers and waterways.
Stronger winds, rougher seas in eastern Mindanao
PAGASA said moderate to strong winds from the south to southwest will prevail over the eastern section of Mindanao, accompanied by moderate to rough seas measuring 1.5 to 2.8 meters.
These conditions are expected to affect particularly exposed coastal areas of Davao Oriental, while the broader eastern and northeastern sections of Mindanao may also experience moderate winds and moderate seas.
For the rest of Mindanao, PAGASA forecast light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with seas generally ranging from slight to moderate, or about 0.6 to 2.5 meters.
The combination of thunderstorms, stronger winds and rougher seas could create hazardous conditions for small fishing boats and other small sea vessels, especially along exposed eastern coastlines.
Zamboanga Peninsula
Across Zamboanga City and the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay, partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, although Zamboanga del Norte is expected to experience moderate winds. Coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 33°C in Zamboanga City, 32°C in Zamboanga del Norte, 31°C in Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay, with conditions becoming warmer in some areas on Wednesday.
Isabela City is likewise expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with rainshowers or thunderstorms, light to moderate southwesterly winds and slight to moderate seas. Temperatures may range from 26°C to 32°C today and reach as high as 34°C tomorrow.
Northern Mindanao
In Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental, PAGASA expects partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Bukidnon will have light to moderate winds and temperatures ranging from 20°C to 31°C, while temperatures may climb to 33°C tomorrow.
Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental will generally experience moderate winds from the south to southwest and moderate coastal waters.
Misamis Oriental may reach 33°C today and 35°C tomorrow, while Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental could reach 32°C today and 34°C tomorrow.
Davao Region
The Davao Region will likewise remain under a generally unsettled weather pattern, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Metro Davao, Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur are expected to experience light to moderate southwesterly winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.
Davao Oriental, however, stands out as one of the areas facing more challenging conditions. PAGASA forecast moderate to strong winds from the south to southwest and moderate to rough seas, with coastal waters potentially reaching the upper end of the regional forecast.
Temperatures in Davao Oriental are expected to range from 24°C to 31°C today, rising to as high as 33°C tomorrow.
The agency’s forecast also identifies Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental as areas that may experience thunderstorms. Davao Occidental is expected to have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas.
SOCCSKSARGEN
In North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani, partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, although Sarangani is expected to experience moderate winds and moderate coastal waters.
Temperatures may reach 31°C in North Cotabato and South Cotabato, while Sultan Kudarat could reach 32°C. Sarangani is forecast to have a slightly cooler maximum temperature of 30°C today.
Temperatures may increase by about 2°C in most areas tomorrow.
Caraga
The Caraga Region will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur are expected to have light to moderate southwesterly winds, while Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands are forecast to experience moderate to strong winds.
The latter areas are also expected to have moderate to rough seas, making marine conditions more challenging along exposed coastlines.
Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur could reach 34°C today and 36°C tomorrow, while Dinagat Islands may reach 33°C today and 35°C tomorrow.
BARMM
Several areas of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are also expected to experience rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur are all forecast to have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Winds across these areas will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal conditions where applicable.
Temperatures are expected to remain within the 23°C to 34°C range, depending on location and time of day.
PAGASA urges vigilance during severe thunderstorms
Although the regional forecast does not indicate continuous widespread rainfall across Mindanao, PAGASA emphasized the potential hazards associated with severe thunderstorms.
Localized thunderstorms can develop rapidly and may produce intense rainfall over a short period. Such conditions can result in sudden flooding, particularly in low-lying and urbanized areas, while steep and unstable slopes may become susceptible to landslides.
Residents in flood- and landslide-prone communities are advised to closely monitor weather conditions and local government advisories, especially when thunderstorms develop in their areas.
Motorists should also exercise caution when traveling during heavy rain because reduced visibility, slippery roads and sudden flooding may create dangerous driving conditions.
Meanwhile, coastal communities, fishermen and operators of small boats are urged to consider the forecast wind and sea conditions before heading out, particularly along the eastern seaboard where moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are expected.
PAGASA said weather conditions may change rapidly, particularly in areas affected by developing thunderstorms, and advised the public to continue monitoring official weather updates and warnings.
