MINDANAO — Most parts of Mindanao are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms on Saturday, August 15, according to the regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 5 a.m.
The forecast, valid from 5 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday, warns that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas that receive heavy rainfall within a short period.
PAGASA said light to moderate winds from the south to southwest will prevail across Mindanao, while coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights generally ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
The weather outlook covers the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Rain and thunderstorms expected in western Mindanao
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City, skies are forecast to be partly cloudy to at times cloudy, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible during both daytime and nighttime periods.
Temperatures in these areas are expected to reach as high as 35°C during the day, while nighttime temperatures could fall to around 32°C to 33°C depending on the locality. Winds will remain light to moderate from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal conditions.
Northern Mindanao also under thunderstorm watch
Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental are likewise expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Bukidnon could see temperatures between 22°C and 32°C during the day, dropping to as low as 22°C to 30°C overnight. Coastal provinces in Northern Mindanao are expected to experience slight to moderate seas, while winds will generally remain light to moderate from the south to southwest.
Davao Region to see isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms
Across Metro Davao and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental, PAGASA is forecasting partly cloudy to at times cloudy conditions accompanied by possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Daytime temperatures could reach 34°C in Davao del Norte and up to 33°C in several other areas. Davao de Oro is expected to have relatively cooler conditions, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C during the day and 23°C to 31°C at night.
Warm conditions across SOCCSKSARGEN
North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are also expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures could reach 35°C in North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, while South Cotabato is forecast to reach up to 33°C. Sarangani could see temperatures between 26°C and 32°C during the day and 26°C to 31°C overnight.
The combination of warm daytime temperatures and localized thunderstorms means weather conditions could change quickly in affected areas, particularly when thunderstorms develop.
Caraga areas face possible thunderstorms
In Caraga, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands are all expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Surigao del Norte could record the highest daytime temperature in the region, reaching 36°C, followed by Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands, which could reach 35°C.
Overnight temperatures in these areas are expected to remain relatively warm, ranging from approximately 31°C to 34°C, depending on the province.
BARMM areas also included in the forecast
PAGASA’s forecast also covers Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.
All of these areas are expected to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Lanao del Sur is expected to have among the coolest conditions in the BARMM, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 30°C during the day and 22°C to 28°C at night. Meanwhile, Maguindanao del Sur could reach 34°C during the daytime.
Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are forecast to experience temperatures reaching up to 33°C during the day, with nighttime temperatures potentially falling to 30°C to 32°C.
Public urged to remain alert during severe thunderstorms
With localized thunderstorms expected across much of Mindanao, residents in areas prone to flooding and landslides are advised to remain alert, particularly when thunderstorms become intense or prolonged.
Motorists should exercise caution on roads that may become slippery or experience reduced visibility during heavy rain. Communities near waterways and areas with a history of flooding should also monitor weather conditions and be prepared for sudden rises in water levels.
Those living in or traveling through mountainous and landslide-prone areas should remain particularly vigilant during periods of persistent or heavy rainfall.
PAGASA emphasized in its regional forecast that flash floods or landslides are possible due to severe thunderstorms, making localized weather monitoring important throughout the forecast period.
The regional forecast was issued by PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) at 5 a.m. on August 15, 2026, and is valid until 5 a.m. on August 16, 2026.
