Mindanao is expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, according to the regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).
The forecast was issued at 5:00 a.m. on August 16, 2026, and is valid until 5:00 a.m. on August 17. PAGASA said localized thunderstorms may affect various parts of Mindanao, with severe thunderstorms potentially bringing sudden heavy rainfall that could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
Across the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City, partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy conditions are expected, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible. Temperatures are forecast to range from 25°C to 35°C, while winds will generally be light to moderate and coming from the south to southwest.
Northern Mindanao will likewise remain under partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Bukidnon is expected to experience temperatures between 20°C and 32°C, while Camiguin may see 26°C to 34°C. Lanao del Norte is forecast to have temperatures of 23°C to 30°C, while Misamis Occidental may reach 33°C and Misamis Oriental up to 34°C.
Similar conditions are expected across the Davao Region. Metro Davao and Davao del Norte may experience temperatures from 26°C to 33°C, while Davao del Sur is forecast at 24°C to 32°C. Davao Oriental could reach 34°C, while Davao de Oro is expected to range from 23°C to 35°C. Davao Occidental may see temperatures between 23°C and 32°C.
In SOCCSKSARGEN, North Cotabato is forecast to reach 35°C, South Cotabato up to 35°C, Sultan Kudarat up to 33°C and Sarangani up to 32°C. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected throughout the area.
Caraga will also remain under a similar weather pattern. Agusan del Norte is forecast to reach 34°C, Agusan del Sur 34°C, Surigao del Norte 35°C, Surigao del Sur 36°C and Dinagat Islands 34°C. Despite the warm daytime temperatures, localized thunderstorms may produce sudden periods of heavy rain.
The same weather conditions are forecast across areas under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Cotabato City may experience temperatures between 24°C and 33°C, while Basilan is forecast at 25°C to 33°C. Lanao del Sur may remain relatively cooler, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 29°C.
In the island provinces, Sulu is expected to experience temperatures from 25°C to 32°C, while Tawi-Tawi may range from 27°C to 32°C. Maguindanao del Norte is forecast at 24°C to 33°C, while Maguindanao del Sur may experience temperatures between 25°C and 33°C.
PAGASA also reported that winds across Mindanao will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights generally ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters in areas covered by the regional forecast.
The weather agency advised the public to remain alert during thunderstorms, particularly in areas prone to flooding and landslides. Residents should monitor official weather advisories and take appropriate precautions when thunderstorms become severe, as localized weather systems can produce sudden heavy rainfall even when surrounding areas remain relatively dry.
Motorists, commuters, farmers, residents in mountainous communities and those living near rivers and waterways are likewise encouraged to exercise caution during periods of intense rainfall. Outdoor activities should be reconsidered when thunderstorms develop, particularly when accompanied by strong winds, lightning or persistent heavy rain.
PAGASA emphasized that the forecast covers a broad regional area and that actual weather conditions may vary from one locality to another. Localized thunderstorms can develop rapidly, making continued monitoring of official advisories important throughout the forecast period.
