Mindanao, Philippines — Large portions of Mindanao are set to experience widespread rains, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions as Tropical Depression “Basyang” continues to influence weather patterns across the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 5:00 a.m. advisory on February 5, 2026, PAGASA reported that the center of Tropical Depression Basyang was last located about 870 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (8.7°N, 132.4°E). The system is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour, while moving westward at 15 kilometers per hour.
Areas Under Direct Influence
PAGASA said Basyang is currently affecting Caraga, the Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, and parts of SOCCSKSARGEN, bringing enhanced rainfall and unstable weather conditions.
The provinces of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Davao Oriental are expected to experience continuous rains accompanied by gusty winds. Authorities warned of a heightened risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas, due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
While the overall threat to life and property remains minimal to minor, PAGASA emphasized that strong winds may still cause damage to light structures, power interruptions, and falling debris.
Rainy Conditions Across Mindanao
Other parts of Mindanao, including Northern Mindanao, Dinagat Islands, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sarangani, and the rest of the Davao Region, are forecast to have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
These areas may also experience localized flooding and landslides, particularly during periods of intense downpour.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will likely see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms due to localized weather systems.
Dangerous Sea Conditions
PAGASA also warned of rough maritime conditions, especially along the eastern seaboard of Mindanao.
Moderate to strong winds from the northeast to north will prevail over eastern sections, generating moderate to rough seas measuring between 2.5 and 4.0 meters. Fisherfolk and operators of small sea vessels were advised to avoid sailing in these areas.
In other coastal zones, winds will remain light to moderate, with sea waves ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters, which may still pose risks to smaller boats.
Provincial Weather Outlook
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms, accompanied by light to moderate winds. Temperatures are forecast to range between 23°C and 33°C.
In Northern Mindanao, provinces such as Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin will experience cloudy skies with frequent rain and thunderstorms, with occasional gusty winds in coastal areas. Temperatures will range from 19°C to 31°C.
The Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental, is expected to remain under cloudy and rainy conditions, with some areas experiencing strong winds and rough seas, particularly in Davao Oriental. Temperatures will range from 21°C to 32°C.
In SOCCSKSARGEN, covering North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms will persist, with temperatures between 24°C and 31°C.
The Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, is expected to be among the hardest hit, with continuous rains and strong winds, and sea conditions remaining moderate to rough. Temperatures may drop to 21°C in some inland areas.
In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, residents will experience cloudy to partly cloudy skies with intermittent rain and thunderstorms, with generally light to moderate winds and temperatures ranging from 20°C to 32°C.
PAGASA Urges Public Vigilance
PAGASA advised residents in affected areas to remain alert and take precautionary measures, particularly those living near rivers, slopes, and coastal communities.
Local government units and disaster response teams were urged to closely monitor weather updates and prepare for possible evacuations, road closures, and relief operations if conditions worsen.
The public is encouraged to regularly check official weather bulletins and advisories through PAGASA’s website and hotlines for the latest developments on Tropical Depression Basyang.
