CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Residents across Mindanao should remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms across the island from Friday, June 19, until early Saturday.

According to PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the provinces of Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms caused by the prevailing easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao, including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorm activity.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger sudden flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying, flood-prone, and mountainous areas.
“Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms,” the weather bureau said in its advisory issued at 5:00 a.m. Friday.
Light to Moderate Winds Across Mindanao
The weather bureau reported that winds throughout Mindanao will remain light to moderate, generally coming from the northeast to north.
Coastal waters across the island are expected to be slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters, making sea travel generally favorable. However, fishermen and small vessel operators are still advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, which can produce sudden strong winds and rough seas.
Warm Daytime Temperatures Expected
Several provinces are expected to experience warm to hot daytime temperatures, with some areas reaching as high as 35°C to 36°C.
Among the warmest areas forecast are:
- Agusan del Norte – up to 36°C
- North Cotabato – up to 35°C
- Zamboanga del Norte – up to 35°C
- Davao Oriental – up to 34°C
- Dinagat Islands – up to 34°C
- Surigao del Norte – up to 34°C
- Surigao del Sur – up to 34°C
- Maguindanao del Norte – up to 34°C
- Maguindanao del Sur – up to 34°C
Metro Davao, Zamboanga City, Isabela City, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, and other parts of Mindanao are also expected to experience temperatures ranging from 31°C to 34°C.
Meanwhile, cooler temperatures are expected in the highland areas of Lanao del Sur, where temperatures may range between 21°C and 30°C.
Areas Under Continued Monitoring
The eastern section of Mindanao, particularly the provinces facing the Pacific Ocean, remains under closer monitoring due to the influence of the easterlies. These weather systems carry warm and humid air that can generate cloud formations and localized thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Communities still recovering from recent disasters, including those affected by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake in parts of Mindanao, are urged to stay updated on weather advisories as unstable weather conditions may complicate relief, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts.
Public Advised to Stay Vigilant
PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant, especially during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Residents living near rivers, creeks, mountain slopes, and landslide-prone areas should monitor official weather bulletins and heed instructions from local disaster management authorities.
Motorists are likewise advised to exercise caution during sudden downpours that may reduce visibility and cause slippery road conditions.
The latest weather forecast remains valid from 5:00 a.m. on June 19 until 5:00 a.m. on June 20, 2026, with PAGASA continuing to monitor weather developments across Mindanao.
For updates, the public is encouraged to follow official PAGASA advisories and local disaster risk reduction offices.
