Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of eastern Mindanao, while the rest of the island will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rainshowers over the next 24 hours, according to the latest regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on March 5 by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The weather bureau said the prevailing easterlies—warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—will bring cloudy weather and intermittent rains particularly over the Caraga Region as well as the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental. These areas may experience moderate to at times heavy rainfall that could trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in mountainous and low-lying communities.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao, including several provinces in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, the Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms also caused by the easterlies. PAGASA warned that localized thunderstorms could still bring sudden downpours that may result in flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

Conditions in Zamboanga Peninsula

In Zamboanga City and across the Zamboanga Peninsula, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy with rainshowers or thunderstorms within the forecast period.

Temperature ranges are forecast as follows:

  • Zamboanga City: around 24°C to 33°C
  • Zamboanga del Norte: about 25°C to 30°C
  • Zamboanga del Sur: approximately 23°C to 33°C
  • Zamboanga Sibugay: around 23°C to 32°C
  • Isabela City: about 22°C to 30°C

Light to moderate winds from the northeast will prevail across the region, with coastal waters remaining slight to moderate, with wave heights estimated between 0.6 and 2.5 meters.

Northern Mindanao and Nearby Areas

Several provinces in Northern Mindanao are also expected to experience similar weather conditions—partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Forecast temperature ranges include:

  • Bukidnon: 20°C to 31°C
  • Camiguin: 23°C to 30°C
  • Lanao del Norte: 25°C to 32°C
  • Misamis Occidental: 25°C to 30°C
  • Misamis Oriental: 24°C to 32°C

Winds across these provinces will also be light to moderate from the northeast, with generally slight to moderate sea conditions in coastal waters.

Davao Region Outlook

Metro areas and provinces in the Davao Region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with intermittent rainshowers and thunderstorms. However, heavier rainfall may initially affect some areas such as Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental.

Temperature ranges across the region are expected between 23°C and 32°C, depending on location, including Metro Davao and neighboring provinces.

Caraga and Eastern Mindanao Under Closer Watch

PAGASA noted that provinces in the Caraga Region—including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands—may experience cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms during the early part of the forecast period before conditions gradually improve later in the day.

Temperatures in these areas are expected to range roughly between 23°C and 30°C.

SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM

In SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM, including provinces such as North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Cotabato City, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Similar weather conditions are forecast in other BARMM provinces, including Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur.

Daytime temperatures in these areas may reach up to 34°C, particularly in parts of South Cotabato, while minimum temperatures may drop to around 21°C to 24°C in some areas.

Advisory

PAGASA advised residents, particularly those living in landslide-prone or flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant as thunderstorms may intensify rainfall in a short period of time. Fisherfolk and small seacraft operators are also urged to monitor sea conditions, although waters are generally expected to remain manageable.

The forecast is valid from 5:00 a.m. today until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow for Mindanao under PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division monitoring.
