MINDANAO — Widespread partly cloudy to cloudy skies, isolated rain showers and localized thunderstorms are expected across Mindanao over the next 24 hours, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
In its Regional Weather Forecast for Mindanao (MINPRSD) issued at 5:00 a.m. on September 3, 2026, PAGASA said the forecast is valid from 5:00 a.m. Thursday until 5:00 a.m. Friday, September 4.
The weather bureau expects generally partly cloudy skies that may become cloudy at times, accompanied by rain showers or thunderstorms in various parts of the region.
PAGASA specifically cautioned that flash floods and landslides are possible due to severe thunderstorms, particularly in areas susceptible to flooding, steep terrain and rain-induced slope failures.
Residents are advised to remain alert for sudden changes in weather, especially when thunderstorms develop over or near their communities.
Southwesterly Winds, Moderate Seas
Winds across Mindanao are forecast to generally blow from the south to southwest, ranging from light to moderate.
However, moderate winds are expected over several areas of the Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental, while Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental are also expected to experience moderate winds.
Coastal waters around Mindanao are forecast to range from slight to moderate, with wave heights generally between 0.6 and 2.1 meters.
The conditions may affect small boats and other light vessels, particularly during thunderstorms or periods of locally stronger winds and higher waves.
Western Mindanao
In Zamboanga City, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms are expected, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C during the initial forecast period and reaching as high as 35°C in the succeeding period.
Zamboanga del Norte is expected to experience temperatures of 25°C to 31°C, increasing to as much as 34°C, while Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay could see temperatures from 24°C to 31°C, rising to 34°C.
Isabela City is forecast to have temperatures between 26°C and 32°C, with the maximum temperature potentially reaching 35°C.
All these areas are expected to experience light to moderate south-to-southwest winds and slight to moderate coastal conditions.
Northern Mindanao
In Bukidnon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms are forecast, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 29°C, rising to as much as 32°C.
Camiguin is expected to experience temperatures of 25°C to 32°C, increasing to 35°C, while Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental could record temperatures generally between 24°C and 32°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 35°C.
Coastal areas in these provinces are expected to experience slight to moderate seas.
Davao Region
The Davao Region will also remain under partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with possible rain showers and thunderstorms.
Metro Davao is forecast to have temperatures between 25°C and 30°C, with the temperature potentially reaching 33°C. Moderate winds from the south to southwest and moderate coastal conditions are expected.
Davao del Norte could experience temperatures from 24°C to 30°C, rising to 33°C, while Davao del Sur is expected to range from 25°C to 30°C, with highs of 33°C.
Davao Oriental is forecast to have temperatures of 25°C to 30°C, potentially reaching 33°C, with moderate winds and moderate coastal conditions.
In Davao de Oro, temperatures are expected to range from 23°C to 34°C, while Davao Occidental could see temperatures between 23°C and 29°C, increasing to 32°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN
Across SOCCSKSARGEN, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms are likewise expected.
North Cotabato is forecast to have temperatures of 23°C to 30°C, increasing to 33°C.
South Cotabato could experience temperatures between 23°C and 30°C, with highs reaching 32°C, while Sultan Kudarat is expected to range from 24°C to 30°C, increasing to 33°C.
In Sarangani, temperatures are forecast at 25°C to 30°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 32°C. Coastal areas in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are expected to have slight to moderate seas.
Caraga Region
The Caraga provinces are also expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms.
Agusan del Norte could see temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C, increasing to 35°C, while Agusan del Sur is forecast at 24°C to 32°C, with highs reaching 34°C.
Surigao del Norte is expected to experience temperatures of 26°C to 33°C, potentially reaching 36°C.
Both Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands could record temperatures from 24°C to 33°C or 26°C to 33°C, respectively, with maximum temperatures reaching 36°C.
Coastal areas across much of Caraga are forecast to experience slight to moderate seas.
BARMM
In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), similar weather conditions are expected.
Cotabato City is forecast to experience temperatures from 24°C to 31°C, with highs of up to 34°C.
Basilan could see temperatures between 26°C and 32°C, increasing to 35°C, while Lanao del Sur is expected to be cooler, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 29°C and reaching up to 32°C.
In Sulu, temperatures are forecast at 26°C to 32°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 35°C, while Tawi-Tawi could experience temperatures from 26°C to 31°C, increasing to 34°C.
Maguindanao del Norte is expected to have temperatures between 24°C and 32°C, with highs of 35°C, while Maguindanao del Sur could reach 36°C, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 33°C during the earlier period.
Slight to moderate coastal conditions are expected in the listed BARMM areas.
Public Advised to Monitor Weather Conditions
With thunderstorms possible across the region, residents in low-lying, flood-prone and landslide-prone communities are urged to closely monitor official weather advisories and local warnings.
Motorists should exercise caution when travelling during heavy rain because sudden downpours can reduce visibility and cause flooding on roads. Residents near rivers, waterways and steep slopes should likewise remain vigilant for rapidly rising water levels and possible slope failures.
Fisherfolk and operators of small boats are advised to take coastal conditions into account and avoid venturing out during thunderstorms or when conditions deteriorate.
PAGASA emphasized that the forecast covers the period from 5:00 a.m. September 3 to 5:00 a.m. September 4, 2026, and weather conditions may change as localized thunderstorms develop.
