MINDANAO — Most parts of Mindanao are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
In its Regional Weather Forecast for Mindanao (MINPRSD) issued at 5:00 a.m. on September 1, 2026, PAGASA said the forecast is valid from 5:00 a.m. Tuesday until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2. The agency advised communities to remain alert, particularly in areas prone to flooding and landslides, as thunderstorms may develop in different parts of the island.
Across the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City, partly cloudy to at times cloudy conditions are expected, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible. Temperatures are forecast to reach 31°C to 36°C, depending on the area. Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters will range from slight to moderate.
In Northern Mindanao, Bukidnon is expected to have temperatures between 20°C and 33°C, while Camiguin could reach 35°C. Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental may experience temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to as high as 36°C. Similar to other areas, rainshowers or thunderstorms may occur throughout the forecast period.
Davao Region to see thunderstorms
The Davao Region will also remain under partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Metro Davao is forecast to experience temperatures of 25°C to 34°C, while Davao del Norte could reach 33°C. Davao del Sur is expected to range from 24°C to 34°C, while Davao de Oro could reach 36°C.
PAGASA said winds in most areas of the region will be light to moderate from the south to southwest. However, Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental are expected to experience moderate winds from the same direction, with moderate coastal waters.
Davao Oriental is forecast to have temperatures ranging from 24°C to 34°C, while Davao Occidental could reach 34°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN also under thunderstorm watch
In SOCCSKSARGEN, partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected in North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani.
North Cotabato may experience temperatures between 23°C and 35°C, while South Cotabato is forecast at 23°C to 34°C. Sultan Kudarat could reach 34°C, while Sarangani is expected to range from 24°C to 33°C.
Winds across the region will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters in areas covered by the forecast.
Caraga faces possible localized thunderstorms
The entire Caraga Region is likewise expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms possible.
Agusan del Norte may reach 36°C, while Agusan del Sur could experience temperatures between 24°C and 35°C. Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur may also reach 36°C, while Dinagat Islands could see temperatures as high as 36°C.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate.
BARMM areas may also experience rainshowers and thunderstorms
In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), PAGASA is forecasting similar weather conditions across Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.
Cotabato City may experience temperatures from 24°C to 34°C, while Basilan could reach 35°C. Lanao del Sur will be comparatively cooler, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 31°C.
In the island provinces, Sulu is forecast to reach 33°C, while Tawi-Tawi could reach 32°C. Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur are both expected to experience temperatures of up to 34°C.
Winds in these areas will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters.
Flash floods and landslides remain a concern
PAGASA emphasized that flash floods and landslides are possible due to severe thunderstorms. Even isolated thunderstorms can produce intense rainfall over a short period, potentially causing sudden rises in rivers and waterways and hazardous conditions in low-lying and landslide-prone communities.
Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas are urged to monitor official weather advisories and local government announcements, particularly when thunderstorms develop overhead. Motorists and commuters should also exercise caution when traveling during periods of heavy rain, reduced visibility and possible flooding.
For coastal communities, fishers and other maritime users, PAGASA is forecasting slight to moderate seas generally between 0.6 and 2.1 meters across Mindanao, with moderate coastal conditions particularly noted in parts of Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental.
PAGASA reminded the public that weather conditions can change rapidly, particularly during thunderstorms, and advised everyone to continue monitoring the agency’s latest forecasts and warnings.
