Residents across Mindanao should expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over the next 24 hours due to the prevailing easterlies, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its regional weather forecast issued by the PAGASA Mindanao Regional Services Division, weather specialists said the weather condition will affect most provinces across Mindanao from 5:00 a.m. Friday (March 6) until 5:00 a.m. Saturday.

The agency warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger localized flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Easterlies influencing Mindanao weather

PAGASA said the **easterlies—warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—**are currently influencing the weather over Mindanao. These winds typically bring humid air that can develop into rainshowers or thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening.

Winds across the island are expected to be light to moderate coming from the northeast, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters, making sea travel generally manageable but requiring caution during thunderstorms.

Zamboanga Peninsula forecast

Across the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, skies will remain partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the peninsula are expected to range between 22°C and 34°C, with coastal areas experiencing slight to moderate sea conditions.

Northern Mindanao conditions

In Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, similar weather patterns are expected.

Temperatures may range from 20°C to 33°C, with intermittent rainshowers and thunderstorms possible throughout the day.

Davao Region outlook

Residents in the Davao Region, including Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will experience partly cloudy skies with occasional rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Forecast temperatures in the region will range between 22°C and 33°C.

SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga

In SOCCSKSARGEN, covering North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, temperatures may reach 23°C to 33°C, with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms also expected.

Meanwhile, provinces in the Caraga region—such as Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands—will also experience similar weather conditions with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 33°C.

BARMM areas

Areas under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, will likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Temperature ranges in these areas are forecast between 21°C and 34°C.

Public advised to stay alert

PAGASA urged residents to remain vigilant during thunderstorms, particularly in areas prone to flooding or landslides. Fisherfolk and small sea vessels are also advised to monitor weather updates as sea conditions may change during sudden thunderstorms.

The agency continues to monitor weather developments and advised the public to stay updated through official bulletins and forecasts.
