The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday reported that Tropical Depression “ADA” (international name: Nokaen) remains far outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is not directly affecting Mindanao, but localized thunderstorms will continue to bring rain showers across most parts of the island.

In its Regional Weather Forecast for Mindanao (MINPRSD) issued at 5:00 a.m. on January 21, PAGASA said the center of Tropical Depression ADA was last estimated at 1,205 kilometers east of Northern Luzon (near 17.1°N, 133.1°E). The weather disturbance has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 70 kph and is moving east-southeastward at 20 kph.

Despite the storm’s distance, unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to trigger scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao within the next 24 hours.

Widespread Rain Showers Expected

From 5:00 a.m. today until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, most provinces and cities in Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, and BARMM will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with intermittent rain showers or thunderstorms.

Areas forecast to be affected include:

  • Zamboanga Peninsula: Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City
  • Northern Mindanao: Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental
  • Davao Region: Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental
  • SOCCSKSARGEN: North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani
  • Caraga Region: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands
  • BARMM: Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur

Winds, Seas, and Temperature Outlook

PAGASA said light to moderate winds will generally prevail, blowing from the northeast to northwest across Mindanao. Coastal waters are expected to be slight to moderate, posing minimal risk to small sea vessels, though caution is still advised during thunderstorms.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to range from 19°C to 35°C, with the highest temperatures expected in parts of South Cotabato, Cotabato City, and Maguindanao, while cooler conditions may be felt in upland areas such as Bukidnon.

Public Advisory

PAGASA warned residents, especially those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain alert for possible flash floods and lightning hazards during heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Fisherfolk and small boat operators are also advised to monitor weather updates before heading out to sea.
