August 13, 2025 – Mindanao residents are advised to brace for rainy conditions today as Typhoon Gorio (international name: Podul) and the prevailing southwest monsoon affect large parts of the island.
As of 3:00 AM, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the eye of Typhoon Gorio was located 190 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 170 km/h. The typhoon is moving west-northwestward at 25 km/h.
While the weather disturbance is far from Mindanao, the southwest monsoon is bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and SOCCSKSARGEN. PAGASA warns of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rainfall. The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms from localized weather systems.
