GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected across Mindanao on Sunday, October 11, as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to influence weather conditions over the island, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its regional weather forecast for Mindanao, issued at 5 a.m. on Sunday, PAGASA warned that moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, steep slopes and unstable terrain.
The forecast is valid from 5 a.m. on October 11 until 5 a.m. on October 12.
The weather agency advised residents to remain alert for possible weather-related hazards, especially during periods of persistent or intense rainfall. Communities near rivers, creeks and other waterways, as well as those in low-lying and landslide-prone locations, should closely monitor changing weather conditions.
Rain Showers, Thunderstorms Expected Across Regions
PAGASA forecast cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms across the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City are expected to experience cloudy conditions with rain showers and thunderstorms. Forecast temperatures range from 23°C to 35°C across the listed areas, with Zamboanga del Norte expected to reach a high of 35°C in the succeeding forecast period.
Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental, will likewise experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range from 20°C to 35°C, with Bukidnon recording the lowest forecast minimum of 20°C and Camiguin reaching a possible high of 35°C.
Across the Davao Region, Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental are forecast to experience similar weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to range from 22°C to 34°C in the areas covered by the regional forecasts.
In SOCCSKSARGEN, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are also expected to experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms. Forecast temperatures range from 23°C to 32°C.
Caraga, comprising Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and the Dinagat Islands, will also experience cloudy weather with rain showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures could reach 35°C in the Dinagat Islands during the succeeding forecast period.
In BARMM, Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur are expected to experience cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms. Forecast temperatures range from 23°C to 34°C in the listed areas.
Winds, Coastal Conditions
PAGASA forecast light to moderate winds generally coming from the northwest to southwest across the covered provinces and cities.
Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights generally ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters under the regional outlook for Mindanao.
However, moderate winds and moderate coastal conditions are forecast in Metro Davao, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental. These conditions warrant continued caution among fishers, boat operators and other people whose activities depend on coastal weather.
Those planning sea travel should monitor the latest marine advisories and follow instructions from the Philippine Coast Guard and other maritime authorities, particularly if thunderstorms develop along their routes.
Residents Urged to Prepare for Flooding, Landslides
The possibility of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall remains a key concern in Sunday’s forecast, as prolonged or intense rain can cause waterways to rise rapidly and destabilize slopes.
Residents in flood-prone communities are advised to monitor water levels and prepare to move to safer locations if conditions deteriorate. People living near hillsides and steep terrain should watch for warning signs of landslides, including ground cracks, unusual water seepage and the movement of soil or rocks.
Motorists should also exercise caution on rain-soaked roads, particularly in areas where poor visibility, slippery surfaces or sudden flooding may affect travel.
Local disaster risk reduction and management offices are encouraged to remain prepared for possible weather-related incidents and to disseminate relevant warnings to vulnerable communities.
PAGASA’s forecast indicates that unsettled weather will persist across Mindanao throughout the covered 24-hour period. Residents are advised to check official weather updates for changes in rainfall conditions and any additional advisories.
The regional forecast was issued by PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), based in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.
