Misamis Oriental has seen a significant decline in drug affection, or drug-related activities, from 24.53% to 19.34%, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) – Misamis Oriental. The agency confirmed this development during the 2nd Quarter Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) meeting.

Based on PDEA-Misamis Oriental’s report, the number of affected barangays decreased from 104 in December 2023 to 82 in December 2024. Additionally, the number of drug-cleared barangays in the province rose from 320 in December 2023 to 342 in December 2024.

PDEA-Misamis Oriental emphasized their continued focus on prevention, rehabilitation, and vigilance in completely eliminating drug-related activities in the province. The agency aims to sustain these efforts to reach a near-zero or zero drug-affection status.

This initiative aligns with Governor Unabia’s commitment to addressing crime and social issues in the province. The anti-drug campaign is also part of the province’s Sustainable Development and Poverty Intervention (SDPI) Program and the PAGLAUM Development Agenda, particularly under the pillar of Participatory Governance.

Authorities remain optimistic that with consistent efforts, Misamis Oriental can further reduce drug-related activities and promote a safer community for its residents.
