GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental — A 17-year-old boy who was selling cigarettes was shot while tending his merchandise at the Musliman Area of the Gingoog City Public Market at around 8:30 a.m. on September 11, 2026.
The victim was identified as Mojib Barani, 17. Initial information indicated that Barani was attending to his cigarette merchandise inside the public market when he was approached and shot by an unidentified assailant.
Barani sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was immediately rushed to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite efforts to save his life, the teenager later died at the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
An empty shell casing was reportedly recovered at the crime scene in the Musliman Area of the market and is being treated as part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Witnesses and initial information indicated that the gunman was wearing a facemask during the shooting. The identity of the suspect, however, remained unknown as of the latest available information.
