Maigo, Lanao del Norte – A long-standing family feud that spanned nearly two decades was finally settled on March 22 through the mediation efforts of the Philippine Army and local officials. The resolution between the Bayao and Managsa families took place at Kutitap Beach Resort in Barangay Labu-ay, Maigo, Lanao del Norte.

The conflict originated in 2005 following a theft incident in Barangay Pendolonan, Munai, which escalated into violence and led to the death of Masigal M. Managsa. The Bayao family, fearing for their safety, was subsequently displaced and sought refuge in Tangcal, Lanao del Norte. Despite previous reconciliation attempts, including one in 2017, lasting peace remained elusive.

Renewed efforts led by the Philippine Army, in collaboration with local government officials and security forces, fostered a conducive environment for dialogue. Sustained mediation resulted in both families agreeing to set aside their differences and commit to peace and unity in the region.

Key figures who played a role in the reconciliation included Lt. Col. Neil F. Piad, Commanding Officer of the 5th Mechanized Battalion; PCpt. Rodilio G. Diez, Chief of Police of Maigo Municipal Police Station; and local government officials led by Municipal Mayor Hon. Rafael C. Rizalda and Vice Mayor Hon. Lanto Muta.

This milestone underscores the Philippine Army’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in conflict-affected areas. The successful settlement highlights the power of dialogue, cooperation, and strategic engagement in securing long-term harmony in Lanao del Norte.
