Mindanao is expected to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, according to the regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).
The forecast was issued at 5:00 a.m. on September 5, 2026, and is valid until 5:00 a.m. on September 6.
PAGASA said the prevailing weather conditions across Mindanao could bring sudden periods of rain, particularly in areas affected by localized thunderstorms. Residents in vulnerable communities were warned to remain alert for the possibility of flash floods and landslides, especially when thunderstorms become severe.
The weather agency advised the public to exercise caution in areas prone to flooding, landslides and other hazards associated with intense thunderstorms.
Rain Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Across Mindanao
The forecast covers the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Across the region, the general weather pattern is expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay are forecast to experience partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times, accompanied by rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 36°C, depending on the locality and time of day. Isabela City could reach as high as 36°C, while Zamboanga City may reach 35°C.
Winds in the area will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, with coastal waters expected to remain slight to moderate.
In Northern Mindanao, similar conditions are expected in Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental.
Bukidnon will have cooler conditions, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 33°C, while Misamis Oriental could reach 36°C. Camiguin is also expected to experience partly cloudy conditions, with rainshowers or thunderstorms during the forecast period, although skies may become partly cloudy by the following period.
Moderate Winds, Seas in Davao Region
The Davao Region is likewise expected to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
However, winds in Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental are expected to be moderate from the south to southwest.
Coastal waters in these areas are forecast to be moderate, requiring caution among fishermen, boat operators and other people engaged in sea activities.
Temperatures across the Davao Region are expected to range from 23°C to 36°C, with some areas potentially experiencing hot conditions during the daytime despite the possibility of thunderstorms.
SOCCSKSARGEN Also Under Thunderstorm Watch
In SOCCSKSARGEN, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are also expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures could reach 34°C in North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, while South Cotabato and Sarangani could reach around 33°C to 34°C.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, although moderate winds and moderate coastal waters are expected in Sarangani.
Caraga Faces Similar Conditions
The Caraga Region will also remain under a generally unsettled weather pattern, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and possible rainshowers or thunderstorms in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.
Temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 36°C in several areas.
Moderate winds from the south to southwest are expected in Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands, where coastal waters will be moderate. Agusan del Norte, meanwhile, is expected to have slight to moderate coastal conditions.
BARMM Provinces Included in Thunderstorm Forecast
Several areas of the BARMM are also expected to experience rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur are all forecast to have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible during the forecast period.
Temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 36°C, with the highest daytime temperatures possible in Cotabato City and parts of Maguindanao.
Winds across most BARMM areas will be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters are generally expected to be slight to moderate.
Sea Conditions
For Mindanao as a whole, PAGASA forecasts light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate at 0.6 to 2.5 meters.
The agency’s forecast indicates that conditions will vary by area, with moderate coastal waters particularly expected in portions of the Davao Region, Sarangani and parts of Caraga.
Fishermen and operators of small boats are advised to consider the prevailing sea conditions and monitor subsequent PAGASA updates before venturing out.
Public Urged to Stay Alert
While the regional forecast does not indicate continuous widespread rainfall across Mindanao, the possibility of localized thunderstorms means weather conditions can change quickly from partly cloudy skies to heavy rain and thunderstorms in affected areas.
PAGASA specifically cautioned about the possibility of flash floods and landslides due to severe thunderstorms.
Residents living near rivers, creeks, steep slopes and other hazard-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant, particularly when heavy rain persists or thunderstorms develop nearby.
Motorists are likewise advised to exercise caution on roads that may become slippery or temporarily flooded during intense downpours.
The public is encouraged to continue monitoring official weather bulletins and advisories from PAGASA and local disaster risk reduction and management offices for possible changes in weather conditions.
