CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 14, 2026 — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned residents across Mindanao to prepare for continued cloudy weather, scattered rains, and thunderstorms as the easterlies continue to affect the entire island region.

In its regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, PAGASA said that the prevailing easterlies—or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—will bring unstable weather conditions over Mindanao from 5:00 a.m. Sunday until 5:00 a.m. Monday.
Forecasters warned that moderate to at times heavy rainfall associated with thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying, flood-prone, and mountainous areas.
“Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by easterlies. Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains,” PAGASA stated in its advisory.
Rainy Conditions Across All Regions
The weather bureau forecast cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms across all major regions of Mindanao, including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga Region, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula—including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City—are expected to experience persistent rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 34°C.
Northern Mindanao provinces such as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also experience cloudy skies accompanied by intermittent rains and thunderstorms. Temperatures in the region are expected to range between 20°C and 32°C.
In the Davao Region, Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental will continue to experience unsettled weather conditions. Temperature readings are expected to range from 22°C to 31°C.
The weather system is also expected to affect the provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani under the SOCCSKSARGEN Region, where cloudy skies and thunderstorms are likely to persist.
Meanwhile, Caraga Region provinces—including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands—are forecast to receive frequent rain showers and thunderstorms. Agusan del Norte is expected to register the highest temperature in Mindanao at up to 36°C despite the cloudy weather conditions.
BARMM Areas Under Rainfall Advisory
Residents in BARMM provinces and cities—including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur—are likewise expected to experience cloudy skies and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Temperatures in these areas will range between 22°C and 32°C, with weather authorities cautioning communities to remain vigilant against sudden downpours that could cause localized flooding.
Sea Conditions Remain Generally Safe
PAGASA reported that light to moderate winds will prevail across Mindanao.
The western section of Mindanao will experience winds coming from the southwest to south, while the rest of the island will have winds from the southeast to south.
Sea conditions across Mindanao’s coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters. While generally safe for small fishing vessels and sea travel, authorities advised mariners to exercise caution during thunderstorms, which may generate stronger winds and rougher seas.
Public Urged to Stay Alert
The weather bureau urged local government units, disaster response agencies, and residents to closely monitor weather updates, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
The advisory comes as several parts of Mindanao have recently experienced heavy rains and localized flooding, raising concerns over the potential impact of additional rainfall brought by the easterlies.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for weather bulletins and warnings, especially when thunderstorms develop, as these may bring intense rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds that could pose risks to communities across the island.
The agency continues to monitor weather developments and encouraged residents to follow official advisories for timely updates and safety information.
