CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned residents across Mindanao to remain vigilant as the easterlies continue to affect the eastern section of the island, bringing isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms that could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

In its Regional Weather Forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, PAGASA-Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) said the weather system will influence conditions across the entire island until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The provinces of Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms directly caused by the prevailing easterlies. Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with localized thunderstorms that may develop throughout the day.
Despite the generally fair weather outlook, PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms could bring sudden heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying areas, river channels, and mountainous communities.
Warm Temperatures Expected Across Mindanao
Most provinces in Mindanao are expected to experience warm daytime temperatures ranging from 30°C to 36°C.
The highest temperature forecast was recorded in Agusan del Norte at 36°C, while Agusan del Sur, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro could see temperatures reaching as high as 35°C.
Metro Davao, North Cotabato, Misamis Occidental, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, and several other provinces are expected to register maximum temperatures between 33°C and 34°C.
Bukidnon remains one of the coolest areas in the region, with temperatures ranging from 19°C to 32°C.
Zamboanga Peninsula Under Thunderstorm Threat
Residents in Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City can expect partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times, accompanied by isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
Daytime temperatures in the peninsula are forecast to range between 24°C and 34°C.
Davao Region Faces Intermittent Rainshowers
Across the Davao Region, including Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, and Davao de Oro, weather conditions will remain generally fair but unstable, with isolated thunderstorms likely to develop during the afternoon and evening hours.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach between 31°C and 35°C, making for hot and humid conditions before thunderstorms form.
SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM Also Affected
The provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, along with Cotabato City and the provinces under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, will also experience isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Authorities advise residents to monitor weather updates, especially those living near rivers and flood-prone communities.
Coastal Waters Remain Generally Calm
PAGASA reported that winds across Mindanao will be light to moderate, blowing from the east to northeast.
Sea conditions along the coasts are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters, making conditions generally favorable for small fishing vessels and inter-island sea travel. However, mariners are still advised to exercise caution when thunderstorms occur, as sudden gusts and rougher seas may develop.
Public Advisory
PAGASA urged the public to remain alert for localized thunderstorms, which can rapidly intensify and produce heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds despite the generally fair weather outlook.
Residents in flood-prone and landslide-susceptible areas, particularly in eastern Mindanao, are advised to monitor official weather bulletins and follow instructions from local disaster risk reduction and management offices.
While no tropical cyclone is currently affecting Mindanao, weather authorities emphasized that the prevailing easterlies and localized thunderstorms remain capable of causing weather-related hazards in several parts of the island over the next 24 hours.
