Isabela City, Basilan – Approximately 70 leaders from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), including members of the Basilan State Revolutionary Committee (BSRC), Pasangan City State Revolutionary Committee (PCSRC), national commanders, and community leaders from various municipalities across Basilan, convened today for a pivotal caucus. The meeting, presided over by MNLF Central Committee Secretary General Ustadz Murshi Ibrahim, tackled pressing political, moral, and socio-economic issues in light of the ongoing peace process between the MNLF and the Government of the Philippines (GPH) under the framework of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement (FPA).
Central to the discussions were the collective aspirations and commitments of the organization as it navigates challenges and opportunities, particularly in the context of the upcoming Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections and critical local and national issues. The caucus resulted in the unanimous adoption of key resolutions:
- Support for Resolutions Adopted in Cotabato City: The attendees reaffirmed their endorsement of the outcomes of the MNLF Leaders’ Special Leadership Meeting held on October 24, 2024. This earlier meeting emphasized the importance of political engagement, advancing the peace process, and fostering unity among MNLF factions.
- Strengthening Peace Advocacy Programs: The caucus strategized on reinforcing MNLF-led initiatives to promote peace and stability throughout the region. These programs aim to address lingering issues while paving the way for sustainable development.
A significant highlight of the meeting was a live phone message from MNLF Vice Chairman Ustadz Abdullkarim Misuari, who delivered key directives for the organization. He called for unity, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to preserving and advancing the gains achieved through peace agreements. His message underscored the importance of steadfastness in fulfilling the MNLF’s role as a vital partner in peace and governance within the Bangsamoro National Homeland.
The resolutions passed during the caucus reaffirmed the MNLF’s unwavering dedication to its mission of peace, development, and the empowerment of its members. “This gathering is a testament to our shared resolve to strengthen unity and advance the aspirations of our people,” said Ustadz Murshi Ibrahim.
Today’s caucus forms part of a series of planned meetings aimed at bolstering the organization’s internal cohesion and resolve. As the MNLF continues its journey, it remains committed to ensuring that the voice of the Bangsamoro people is represented and their aspirations for peace and progress are realized.
