BASILAN – A total of 127 amnesty applications from former combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) were received and processed in a single day, marking the highest intake so far in the region, according to the National Amnesty Commission (NAC).
The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) of Basilan led the processing with support from LAB Sulu and LAB Pagadian, reinforcing efforts to facilitate the reintegration of former combatants into mainstream society. This initiative aligns with the Philippine government’s commitment to peace and reconciliation in Mindanao through the amnesty program.
The surge in applications reflects growing participation in the program, which aims to provide former insurgents with a path to legal recognition and reintegration. The NAC has been actively working to streamline the process and encourage more eligible individuals to apply.
The amnesty program is part of a broader peace initiative to foster long-term stability in conflict-affected areas. The government remains committed to supporting former combatants in rebuilding their lives and contributing to national development.
Authorities anticipate continued momentum in the amnesty intake, with further outreach efforts planned to ensure that all qualified individuals benefit from the program.
