The Local Amnesty Board (LAB) of Basilan convened at the Kasinnahan Hotel and Resort for the Localizing Normalization Implementation (LNI) Secretariat meeting, a significant gathering aimed at fostering collaboration among key stakeholders involved in the government’s amnesty program. Attendees included representatives from the Provincial Government of Basilan, security forces, and various peace partners dedicated to supporting local normalization efforts.
During the meeting, the LAB Secretariat provided crucial updates on the status of amnesty applications submitted by members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The discussions highlighted the progress of these applications at both national and provincial levels.
In addition, the LAB outlined plans to enhance public awareness of the amnesty program through targeted information and education campaigns. These initiatives aim to inform the community about the benefits and processes involved in the amnesty program, ensuring broader participation and understanding.
The meeting was chaired by Ariel Hernandez, LNI Co-Chair from the Joint Normalization Committee (JNC), who emphasized the necessity of collaboration among all stakeholders to guarantee the program’s success. Hernandez reaffirmed the LNI secretariat’s commitment to supporting the government’s amnesty initiative by facilitating awareness campaigns and assisting with the overall application process.
This meeting marks a critical step in advancing the peace process in Basilan, reinforcing the commitment to building a more harmonious community through the successful implementation of the amnesty program.
