EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental — Most parts of Mindanao are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, according to the latest regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).
The forecast, issued at 5:00 a.m. on September 2, 2026, is valid from 5:00 a.m. Wednesday until 5:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3.
While generally fair conditions may prevail at times, PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas that receive intense or prolonged rainfall.
The weather agency advised the public, especially those living in flood-prone communities, near steep slopes, and in areas historically vulnerable to landslides, to remain alert whenever thunderstorms develop.
Widespread Rain Showers and Thunderstorms
PAGASA’s regional forecast indicates that much of Mindanao will have partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times, with rain showers or thunderstorms possible.
The same general weather condition is expected across the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Winds across most areas are forecast to be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters will generally remain slight to moderate.
The combination of localized thunderstorms and potentially heavy rainfall means weather conditions may change quickly in affected areas, with periods of intense rain possible even when skies are partly cloudy earlier in the day.
Zamboanga Peninsula
Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City are all expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms.
Winds will be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate.
Temperatures are forecast to range from approximately 24°C to 31°C in several areas during the initial forecast period, with daytime temperatures potentially climbing to 33°C–34°C on Wednesday.
Northern Mindanao
The same unsettled weather pattern is expected over Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental.
Bukidnon will remain cooler than most other areas, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 29°C, rising to as high as 32°C during the daytime.
Camiguin and Lanao del Norte may experience temperatures of around 24°C to 30°C, while Misamis Occidental is expected to reach up to 34°C.
Misamis Oriental could see temperatures rise as high as 35°C during the day despite the possibility of rain showers and thunderstorms.
Coastal waters across the coastal provinces are forecast to remain slight to moderate.
Davao Region
Residents of Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental should likewise prepare for intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms.
Most areas will have light to moderate southwesterly winds.
However, Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental are expected to experience moderate winds and moderate coastal conditions, making sea travel potentially more challenging compared with areas where coastal waters remain slight to moderate.
Temperatures across the Davao Region are generally expected to range from the low to mid-20s at night and early morning to around 31°C–33°C during the daytime.
SOCCSKSARGEN
The provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are also expected to remain under partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, with rain showers or thunderstorms possible.
Light to moderate winds from the south to southwest will prevail.
Daytime temperatures could reach around 32°C to 33°C, with South Cotabato and parts of the surrounding areas expected to remain relatively warm.
Residents and motorists are urged to exercise caution during periods of heavy rain, particularly in areas prone to flooding or poor road visibility.
Caraga Region
The entire Caraga Region is also covered by the forecast, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.
Rain showers or thunderstorms may occur throughout the forecast period.
Temperatures are expected to be relatively warm, with some areas reaching 34°C to 35°C during the daytime.
Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Norte could reach around 35°C, while Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands may experience daytime temperatures of approximately 34°C.
Coastal waters will generally remain slight to moderate, with light to moderate winds from the south to southwest.
BARMM
In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms are forecast over Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.
Most areas will experience light to moderate winds from the south to southwest.
Temperatures could climb to 34°C in Maguindanao del Norte and Basilan, while Maguindanao del Sur may reach as high as 35°C during the daytime.
Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are expected to remain within a temperature range of roughly 25°C to 33°C, while Lanao del Sur could reach around 32°C.
Coastal waters in the BARMM provinces are generally forecast to remain slight to moderate.
Flash Floods and Landslides Remain a Concern
PAGASA’s warning regarding possible flash floods and landslides due to severe thunderstorms remains the most significant concern in the forecast.
Localized thunderstorms can produce intense rainfall over a relatively short period. Such downpours may rapidly increase water levels in rivers, creeks and drainage systems, while saturated soil on steep or unstable slopes can increase the possibility of landslides.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone communities are advised to closely monitor weather developments and follow advisories from local government units and disaster risk reduction and management offices.
Those living near slopes, waterways and other hazard-prone areas should also remain prepared to move to safer locations if local authorities issue evacuation or other emergency instructions.
Motorists are likewise urged to exercise caution during thunderstorms because heavy rainfall can reduce visibility, cause water to accumulate on roads and make driving conditions hazardous.
Sea Conditions Generally Slight to Moderate
For coastal communities and maritime operators, PAGASA forecasts slight to moderate seas ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters across the region.
Most coastal areas will experience light to moderate winds from the south to southwest.
However, Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental are expected to have moderate winds and moderate coastal waters, requiring greater caution from small fishing boats and other vessels operating in affected waters.
Mariners are advised to consider actual weather and sea conditions before sailing and to monitor subsequent PAGASA marine and weather advisories.
Public Urged to Remain Weather-Alert
Although the forecast does not indicate continuous widespread rainfall across Mindanao, the possibility of localized thunderstorms and severe downpours means conditions can deteriorate quickly in specific communities.
PAGASA is reminding the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins, particularly when dark clouds, thunder and lightning develop in their area.
