CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 5, 2026 — Residents across Mindanao are advised to remain vigilant as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and localized thunderstorms throughout the region from Friday morning until Saturday morning.

According to PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the prevailing weather condition is expected to affect all provinces and major cities in Mindanao, bringing occasional rainfall and thunderstorms that may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas during severe weather episodes.

The weather bureau said light to moderate winds coming from the south to southwest will prevail over most parts of the island, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

Zamboanga Peninsula to Experience Warm and Unsettled Weather

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the region are forecast to range from 23°C to as high as 35°C, making Zamboanga City one of the warmest areas in Mindanao during the forecast period.

Northern Mindanao Under Similar Conditions

Northern Mindanao provinces, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, will likewise experience localized thunderstorms.

Bukidnon is expected to record some of the coolest temperatures in the region, ranging from 20°C to 32°C, while coastal provinces such as Camiguin and Misamis Oriental may see temperatures reaching up to 33°C.

Variable winds will dominate much of Northern Mindanao, with sea conditions remaining generally favorable for small fishing vessels and coastal activities.

Davao Region Faces Afternoon Thunderstorm Threats

Metro Davao and the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental are forecast to experience warm weather punctuated by isolated thunderstorms.

Daytime temperatures could reach between 32°C and 34°C across several provinces, particularly Davao de Oro. PAGASA advised residents to prepare for sudden downpours and lightning activity, especially during the afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorms are more likely to develop.

SOCCSKSARGEN Residents Advised to Monitor Weather Updates

In SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected throughout the forecast period.

Temperatures will generally range from 22°C to 33°C. While no widespread rainfall event is expected, localized thunderstorms may bring intense but short-lived rains capable of causing localized flooding in vulnerable communities.

Caraga Region Remains Vulnerable to Thunderstorm Activity

The provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will continue to experience unsettled weather due to localized thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the region are expected to reach up to 34°C during daytime hours. PAGASA warned that communities near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone slopes should remain alert, especially when thunderstorms become severe.

BARMM Areas to Experience Warm and Humid Conditions

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Lanao del Sur is forecast to have the lowest temperatures in Mindanao at 21°C to 30°C, while Maguindanao provinces may see temperatures climbing to 34°C.

Southern and southwesterly winds will continue to influence weather conditions in the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

PAGASA Issues Public Advisory

Although no tropical cyclone or large-scale weather disturbance is currently affecting Mindanao, PAGASA emphasized that localized thunderstorms can still produce heavy rainfall within a short period, posing risks of flash floods, landslides, and reduced visibility on roads.

The weather bureau urged residents, especially those living in flood-prone and landslide-susceptible areas, to monitor official weather bulletins and advisories.

Fisherfolk and operators of small sea vessels were also advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms, despite generally slight to moderate sea conditions.

PAGASA continues to closely monitor weather developments across the region and encouraged the public to stay informed through official channels for the latest forecasts and warnings.
