MINDANAO — Most parts of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning of possible flash floods and landslides in areas hit by severe thunderstorms.
In its Regional Weather Forecast for the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), issued at 5:00 a.m. on August 28, 2026, the weather bureau said the forecast would be valid from 5:00 a.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Saturday.
PAGASA said thunderstorms may develop over various parts of the island, bringing sudden periods of heavy rain. These conditions could trigger flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone communities, while rain-induced landslides remain possible in mountainous and landslide-prone areas.
The agency advised the public to remain alert during thunderstorms, particularly when heavy rainfall occurs over a short period.
Zamboanga Peninsula
Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City are expected to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible.
Temperatures are forecast to range from 24°C to 34°C, depending on the locality and period of the forecast. Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate.
Zamboanga City and Isabela City could reach 34°C, while Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay could reach around 33°C.
Northern Mindanao
Similar weather conditions are expected across Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental.
The areas will generally have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies, with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Bukidnon will have temperatures of around 20°C to 32°C, while Camiguin, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental may reach highs of about 33°C. Misamis Oriental is forecast to reach up to 33°C.
Winds across the region will be light to moderate from the south to southwest. Coastal waters in the provinces with coastlines are expected to remain slight to moderate.
Davao Region
Residents of Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental should likewise expect partly cloudy to at times cloudy conditions with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 34°C, with Davao de Oro forecast to reach up to 34°C.
Davao City, Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte could experience temperatures reaching around 30°C to 32°C, while Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental could reach approximately 33°C.
Light to moderate winds from the south to southwest will prevail, with slight to moderate seas along the region’s coastal areas.
SOCCSKSARGEN
North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani will also remain under a partly cloudy to cloudy weather pattern, with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures may range from 23°C to 33°C, with Sarangani expected to record temperatures of around 24°C to 32°C.
PAGASA likewise forecasts light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters in areas covered by the forecast.
Caraga Region
Across Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands, partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies are expected, accompanied by possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Some of the highest temperatures in the region are expected in Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands, where temperatures could reach as high as 36°C.
Agusan del Norte could reach 35°C, while Surigao del Sur could reach 35°C. Agusan del Sur is forecast to reach around 34°C.
Winds will remain light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters are expected to be slight to moderate.
BARMM
The forecast also covers areas of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.
Partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected across the region.
Temperatures will generally range from 21°C to 34°C. Lanao del Sur is expected to have the coolest conditions, with temperatures between 21°C and 31°C, while Cotabato City and Maguindanao del Norte could reach up to 34°C.
Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are forecast to reach around 33°C, while Basilan could reach 33°C. Maguindanao del Sur is expected to reach up to 34°C.
Seas to remain slight to moderate
PAGASA said winds across Mindanao will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while seas are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from approximately 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
Despite generally manageable coastal conditions, fishermen, boat operators and other maritime users are advised to continue monitoring weather updates, particularly when thunderstorms develop near coastal waters.
The forecast indicates that Mindanao will not experience widespread continuous rainfall throughout the entire forecast period. Instead, weather conditions may shift from partly cloudy to cloudy, with thunderstorms and rainshowers occurring in isolated areas.
However, PAGASA emphasized the potential hazards associated with severe thunderstorms, particularly sudden heavy rainfall that can cause rapid rises in water levels, flash floods and landslides.
Communities located near rivers, creeks and waterways, as well as those in low-lying and mountainous areas, are urged to remain vigilant and monitor local advisories from authorities.
PAGASA reminded the public to continue monitoring its succeeding weather bulletins and warnings, especially as localized thunderstorms can develop quickly and weather conditions can change within a short period.
