MINDANAO, Philippines — Most parts of Mindanao are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, according to the latest regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 5:00 a.m. on June 4.

The weather bureau said localized thunderstorms may develop throughout the day and night across the island, bringing brief but potentially intense downpours that could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying, flood-prone, and mountainous areas.

PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) advised residents to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms can produce sudden heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning despite generally fair weather conditions during portions of the day.

“Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms. Possible flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms,” the forecast stated.

Warm temperatures expected across the island

Daytime temperatures across Mindanao are expected to range from the low 20s to as high as 34 degrees Celsius, with the warmest conditions forecast in several provinces in the Davao Region, Caraga Region, BARMM, and parts of Northern Mindanao.

Areas expected to register the highest daytime temperatures of up to 34°C include Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Basilan.

Meanwhile, cooler temperatures are expected in elevated areas such as Bukidnon, where temperatures may range between 20°C and 33°C during the day and dip to 20°C overnight.

Lanao del Sur is forecast to experience the coolest weather in Mindanao, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 31°C during the day and falling to as low as 21°C at night.

Zamboanga Peninsula under similar weather conditions

Residents in Zamboanga City and the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City can expect partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times with possible rain showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the peninsula are forecast to range from 24°C to 33°C during the daytime and from 24°C to 31°C overnight.

Local authorities are encouraging communities to monitor weather updates, especially in areas susceptible to flooding and landslides.

Northern Mindanao may experience afternoon thunderstorms

The provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental are likewise expected to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Meteorologists noted that while much of the day may begin with fair weather, afternoon and evening thunderstorms remain possible due to localized atmospheric conditions and daytime heating.

Temperatures in Northern Mindanao are forecast to range from 20°C to 33°C.

Davao Region remains warm and humid

The Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will continue to experience warm and humid conditions accompanied by occasional thunderstorms.

Several provinces in the region are expected to record daytime temperatures reaching 34°C, making heat and humidity significant concerns, particularly during midday hours.

Weather experts advise residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight while remaining prepared for sudden thunderstorms later in the day.

SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga advised to monitor weather developments

In SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, temperatures are expected to range between 24°C and 33°C, with isolated thunderstorms possible throughout the forecast period.

Meanwhile, provinces in the Caraga Region—Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands—are among the areas expected to experience some of the warmest conditions in Mindanao, with maximum temperatures reaching 34°C.

Despite the generally favorable weather outlook, PAGASA cautioned that localized thunderstorms can rapidly develop and produce heavy rainfall within a short period.

Slight to moderate seas favorable for marine travel

Across coastal areas of Mindanao, winds are expected to remain light to moderate, generally coming from the south to southwest and occasionally variable in direction.

Sea conditions throughout the island’s coastal waters are forecast to be slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

The weather bureau said these conditions remain generally favorable for small fishing vessels and sea travel. However, mariners are still advised to exercise caution when thunderstorms occur, as sudden gusts and rougher seas may develop.

BARMM provinces also under thunderstorm watch

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, will experience similar weather conditions characterized by partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Authorities urged residents in vulnerable communities to stay informed through official weather bulletins and to take precautionary measures whenever thunderstorms develop.

PAGASA continues to monitor weather conditions across Mindanao and advises the public to regularly check official forecasts and warnings for updates on potential severe weather events.
