MINDANAO — Residents across Mindanao are being advised to remain alert for rainshowers and thunderstorms as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast partly cloudy to cloudy skies across the region from Thursday, August 27, 2026, through Friday morning.
In its 5:00 a.m. regional weather forecast for Mindanao (MINPRSD) issued on August 27, PAGASA said most areas will experience partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times, with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms.
While widespread continuous rainfall is not forecast, PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
The weather outlook is valid from 5:00 a.m. Thursday until 5:00 a.m. Friday.
Zamboanga Peninsula
Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City are expected to experience partly cloudy skies to cloudy conditions at times, accompanied by rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest, while coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate.
Temperatures are forecast to range from 24°C to 34°C, depending on the area and period of the forecast.
Northern Mindanao
Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental will likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures in the area are expected to range from the low 20s to the mid-30s. Bukidnon may see temperatures between 22°C and 31°C, while Lanao del Norte could reach 34°C.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest. Coastal areas of Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental are expected to have slight to moderate seas.
Davao Region
The Davao Region will also remain under a partly cloudy to cloudy weather pattern, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible.
Unlike several other areas of Mindanao, winds over Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental are forecast to be moderate from the south to southwest.
Coastal waters in these areas are expected to be moderate.
Temperatures could reach as high as 36°C, particularly in Davao de Oro, while Davao Occidental is expected to remain relatively cooler, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 31°C during the forecast period.
SOCCSKSARGEN
North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are expected to experience similar conditions, with partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times and isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest.
Temperatures may reach 35°C in Sultan Kudarat, while North Cotabato could reach 34°C and South Cotabato up to 33°C.
Coastal areas of South Cotabato and Sarangani are expected to have slight to moderate seas.
Caraga Region
Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands are also forecast to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures could reach 36°C in Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands, while Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur may experience maximum temperatures of around 35°C.
Winds will be light to moderate from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal conditions in areas facing the sea.
BARMM
In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur are likewise expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures will generally range from the low 20s to the mid-30s. Maguindanao del Sur may reach 35°C, while Lanao del Sur is expected to be cooler, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 30°C.
Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are forecast to experience temperatures of approximately 26°C to 32°C.
Winds will be light to moderate from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate seas in coastal areas.
Residents urged to monitor thunderstorms
PAGASA’s warning on possible flash floods and landslides underscores the need for communities to remain vigilant even in areas where rainfall is expected to be isolated.
Localized thunderstorms can produce sudden heavy rainfall within a relatively short period, potentially causing rapid rises in waterways, flooding in low-lying communities and unstable slopes to fail.
Residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone communities are advised to monitor local weather conditions and heed advisories from authorities, particularly when thunderstorms become severe.
Motorists should also exercise caution during periods of heavy rain because sudden downpours can reduce visibility and create hazardous road conditions.
For coastal communities, fishermen and small-craft operators should remain attentive to changing sea conditions, particularly in areas where moderate seas are forecast.
PAGASA said the regional forecast covers conditions across the Mindanao monitoring area and advised the public to obtain updated weather information through its official channels.
