Cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms are expected to persist across large parts of Mindanao over the next 24 hours, as the easterlies continue to affect the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

In its latest regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on May 4, PAGASA warned that Northern Mindanao, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the day and into early Tuesday.
Weather specialists said these conditions may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas, due to moderate to at times heavy rainfall.
Widespread rainfall in western and northern Mindanao
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, residents can expect persistent cloud cover with rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures in these areas will range from 24°C to 33°C, accompanied by light to moderate northeast winds and slight to moderate coastal conditions.
Similarly, across Northern Mindanao — including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental — cloudy conditions with frequent rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail. Temperatures are forecast between 20°C and 32°C, with generally light to moderate winds from the east to northeast.
Mixed weather across Davao and Caraga
Meanwhile, the Davao Region, including Metro Davao and nearby provinces such as Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated to scattered rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Daytime temperatures in these areas may climb slightly higher, ranging from 25°C to 34°C, while coastal waters remain slight to moderate.
The Caraga Region — covering Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands — will experience similar conditions, with intermittent rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM under rain threat
In the SOCCSKSARGEN region, provinces such as North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will initially see cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms, gradually shifting to partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rains.
Across BARMM, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, cloudy conditions with rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected to dominate, with some areas later experiencing brief clearing but still prone to sudden downpours.
Winds and sea conditions
Across Mindanao, winds will generally be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters—conditions still navigable but requiring caution for small seacraft during thunderstorms.
Advisory
PAGASA urged residents, especially those in flood- and landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant and monitor local advisories as unstable weather conditions persist.
“Localized heavy downpours may occur, particularly during thunderstorms,” the agency noted, emphasizing the need for preparedness as the easterlies continue to influence weather patterns across Mindanao.
