MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday said large parts of Mindanao will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and localized thunderstorms throughout the day until early Wednesday morning, March 31.

In its 5:00 a.m. regional forecast issued by PAGASA Mindanao (MINPRSD), the weather bureau warned that while most areas will generally have fair weather conditions, sudden thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous communities.

General Weather Situation

Across Mindanao, winds will remain light to moderate coming from the east to northeast, with coastal waters expected to be slight to moderate, ranging from 0.5 to 1.8 meters. These conditions are generally safe for small seacrafts, but authorities advise caution during thunderstorms.

Zamboanga Peninsula: Warm Days with Intermittent Rains

In Zamboanga City and the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Daytime temperatures may reach 32°C to 34°C, cooling slightly to 29°C to 31°C at night. Similar conditions are forecast in Isabela City.

Northern Mindanao: Cooler Highlands, Coastal Showers

In Bukidnon, temperatures will range from a cooler 19°C to 33°C, reflecting its highland terrain, while coastal provinces like Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will see temperatures between 22°C and 33°C.

Lanao del Norte will experience similar weather patterns, with occasional thunderstorms and moderate coastal conditions.

Davao Region: Hot and Humid with Afternoon Storms

The Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro, will remain warm and humid, with temperatures peaking at up to 35°C.

Thunderstorms are likely to develop in the afternoon or evening, bringing temporary relief from the heat but posing risks of localized flooding.

SOCCSKSARGEN: Rising Heat, Isolated Thunderstorms

In SOCCSKSARGEN, particularly in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and North Cotabato, temperatures may climb to 34°C to 35°C during the day.

Despite the heat, PAGASA noted that isolated thunderstorms remain possible, particularly in the late afternoon to evening.

Caraga Region: Continued Rains in Eastern Seaboard

The Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, will experience similar weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 33°C.

Given its location along the eastern seaboard, the region remains prone to more frequent rainshowers.

BARMM: Warm Conditions with Coastal Showers

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, residents can expect warm temperatures between 30°C and 35°C during the day.

Coastal areas will continue to experience slight to moderate seas, while inland areas remain at risk of thunderstorms.

Public Advisory

PAGASA advised residents across Mindanao to remain vigilant, especially during thunderstorms, due to the risk of flash floods and landslides. Farmers, fisherfolk, and local disaster risk reduction units are urged to monitor weather updates and take precautionary measures.

The agency continues to monitor weather developments and encourages the public to access official updates through its platforms.
