Mindanao, Philippines — January 27, 2026
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of potentially hazardous weather conditions across large parts of Mindanao as a shear line continues to affect the northeastern sections of the island, while localized thunderstorms are expected over the rest of the region.

In its Regional Weather Forecast for Mindanao (MINPRSD) issued at 5:00 a.m. on January 27, 2026, PAGASA said the forecast is valid until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, urging residents, local government units, and disaster response agencies to remain on alert.
High Risk Areas: Caraga, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental
According to PAGASA, the Caraga Region, the province of Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental will experience cloudy to rainy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line.
These weather conditions may bring moderate to at times heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying areas and communities near rivers, slopes, and mountainous terrain.
Thunderstorms Across the Rest of Mindanao
Meanwhile, other parts of Mindanao, including Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, BARMM, and remaining Caraga provinces, are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms could still trigger localized flooding and landslides, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.
Strong Winds and Rough Seas
PAGASA also raised concern over strong winds and dangerous sea conditions, particularly along the eastern seaboard of Mindanao.
- Strong to gale-force winds are expected to blow from the northeast to north.
- Eastern Mindanao waters may experience rough to very rough seas, with wave heights ranging from 2.8 to 4.0 meters.
- Other coastal areas around Mindanao will have moderate to rough seas, with waves reaching 1.2 to 2.8 meters.
Small fishing boats and other sea vessels are strongly advised not to venture out to sea, while larger vessels are urged to take precautionary measures.
Regional Temperature Outlook
Daytime temperatures across Mindanao are expected to range from 19°C to 33°C, depending on location:
- Cooler temperatures are forecast in highland areas such as Bukidnon.
- Warmer conditions will prevail in coastal and lowland provinces, including parts of BARMM, Davao Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula.
Areas Under Continued Monitoring
Provinces under close monitoring due to persistent rain, thunderstorms, and rough seas include:
- Caraga Region: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands
- Northern Mindanao: Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon
- Davao Region: Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental
- SOCCSKSARGEN: North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani
- BARMM: Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi
- Zamboanga Peninsula: Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Isabela City
