DAVAO CITY — Cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over large portions of Mindanao from Friday morning, December 19, until early Saturday, December 20, as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to affect the region, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 5:00 a.m. regional weather forecast issued by PAGASA–Mindanao (MINPRSD), weather authorities warned that Caraga Region and the Davao Region are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms, which may bring moderate to at times heavy rainfall. PAGASA cautioned residents in these areas to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous communities.

The rest of Mindanao, including Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, mainly due to the prevailing easterlies. PAGASA noted that localized flooding or landslides may still occur during severe thunderstorms.

Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao

Across Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, weather conditions will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with occasional rainshowers or thunderstorms throughout the day and night. Daytime temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 32°C, slightly cooler during the evening hours.

Similar conditions are forecast over Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, with temperatures ranging from 19°C to 31°C. Coastal areas will experience slight to moderate seas, making sea travel generally manageable but requiring caution during thunderstorms.

Davao Region and Caraga Under Closer Watch

The Davao Region—covering Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental—will be under cloudy skies with frequent rainshowers and thunderstorms both during the day and overnight. Temperatures will range from 24°C to 32°C. PAGASA urged residents, particularly those near river systems and landslide-prone slopes, to closely monitor weather updates.

Meanwhile, Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, will also experience cloudy conditions with rains and thunderstorms. Temperatures in the region will range from 23°C to 31°C, with PAGASA emphasizing the heightened risk of flooding due to continuous rainfall.

BARMM and SOCCSKSARGEN

In SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Temperatures may reach up to 32°C during daytime.

Across BARMM, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, similar weather conditions are forecast, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 32°C. Coastal waters in these areas will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights of 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

Winds and Sea Conditions

PAGASA said light to moderate winds from the east to northeast will prevail over Mindanao, resulting in slight to moderate sea conditions. Fisherfolk and small boat operators are advised to exercise caution, particularly during thunderstorms.

PAGASA encouraged the public to stay updated through official advisories and to take precautionary measures against flooding, landslides, and lightning hazards. For further updates, the public may visit bagong.pagasa.dost.gov.ph or contact PAGASA through its hotline numbers.

The forecast is valid from 5:00 a.m. on December 19 until 5:00 a.m. on December 20, 2025.
