CARMEN, Surigao del Sur — Two former rebels (FRs) have taken a major step toward reintegration into society after receiving financial assistance from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tandag City, led by Mayor Roxanne C. Pimentel. The turnover of aid, conducted under the supervision of the 36th Infantry “Valor” Battalion, underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, reconciliation, and livelihood opportunities in conflict-affected communities.

The cash assistance forms part of the local government’s continuing reintegration program for former members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG). It aims to help them rebuild their lives, support their families, and contribute to sustainable peace and development in Surigao del Sur.

Mayor Pimentel reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to peacebuilding and inclusive growth. “We want our former rebels to know that the government is always ready to help them start anew. This assistance is just one of the many ways we can help them rebuild their lives and become productive members of the community,” she said.

Lt. Col. Ante, commanding officer of the 36th Infantry Battalion, commended the two beneficiaries for their courage to return to the folds of the law. “Their decision to surrender is a testament to their trust in the government’s sincerity to bring peace and progress. The Army, together with our local officials, will continue to work hand in hand to ensure that no one is left behind in our journey toward lasting peace,” he said.

The two recipients expressed deep gratitude to the LGU and the military for the continued support, vowing to use the financial aid to improve their livelihood and contribute positively to their communities.

This partnership between the LGU of Tandag and the 36th Infantry Battalion stands as a strong reminder of the government’s unwavering dedication to peacebuilding, reconciliation, and inclusive development across Surigao del Sur.
