BUTUAN CITY — August 17, 2026 — A 48-year-old man was shot dead by two unidentified assailants while he was inside a parked multicab in Purok 1, Barangay Ampayon, Butuan City, at around 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 16.

The victim, identified by police only through the alias “Bin,” was a resident of Purok 6, Barangay Ampayon. Police said he was reportedly the brother of a police officer and was living with his partner.
According to Ampayon Police Station 4, authorities received a report from a concerned citizen about a shooting incident in the area. Police immediately proceeded to the location and found the victim inside the multicab.
Initial police investigation indicated that the victim was reportedly playing “scatter” inside the parked vehicle when two unidentified men arrived on board a black Honda Wave motorcycle.
The suspects allegedly approached the victim and asked him a question. Moments later, the back rider reportedly drew a firearm and shot the victim several times.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died as a result of the attack.
Police said the motorcycle driver was reportedly wearing a black jacket and black helmet, while the back rider was wearing an orange shirt, white helmet and a sling bag.
After the shooting, the suspects immediately fled the area on board the motorcycle and escaped in an undetermined direction.
Authorities have yet to publicly identify the suspects, and the motive for the shooting remains undetermined as the investigation continues.
Police are conducting a hot pursuit operation and gathering additional information that could help establish the identities of the two assailants and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Investigators are also expected to examine available evidence from the crime scene and verify accounts that may help establish the sequence of events before and after the shooting.
As of the latest information available, authorities have not announced any arrest in connection with the incident.
Police urged individuals with relevant information about the shooting or the suspects to coordinate with the Ampayon Police Station and assist investigators in identifying those responsible.
Authorities also reminded the public to avoid circulating unverified claims, particularly regarding the identities of the suspects, until such information is officially confirmed by investigators.
