An adult male suspect was arrested in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, following a joint hot pursuit operation launched after he allegedly evaded a checkpoint and was later found carrying a pistol magazine loaded with live ammunition.
The operation stemmed from a simultaneous checkpoint conducted by personnel of the Ipil Municipal Police Station (Ipil MPS), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in Barangay Tiayon, Ipil.
According to the initial investigation, the incident began at around 11:45 p.m. on August 13, 2026, while the checkpoint was underway. A police officer flagged down a motorcycle after noticing that its driver was not wearing a protective helmet.
Instead of stopping and complying with the checkpoint, the rider allegedly attempted to evade the authorities. During the escape, the motorcycle reportedly nearly struck a pedestrian.
The incident was immediately reported to the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) Police Non-Commissioned Officer (PNCO) by duty personnel of the Tiayon Community Assistance and Policing Company (COMPAC).
Ipil MPS, identified as the lead unit, then coordinated with other law enforcement units and AFP counterparts and launched a hot pursuit operation to locate the fleeing rider.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. on August 14, pursuing personnel caught up with the suspect at Purok Nangka, Barangay Veterans Village, Ipil.
The suspect was successfully arrested, and a subsequent body search resulted in the recovery of a sling bag containing one caliber .45 pistol magazine loaded with two live rounds of ammunition.
Authorities said the suspect is being held by the Ipil MPS, along with the recovered items, for documentation, proper disposition, and the filing of appropriate charges.
The reported possession of the firearm magazine and ammunition is being treated as a violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. The appropriate charges will be determined and filed based on the evidence gathered by investigators and applicable law.
PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director of the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO), commended the police, military, and CAFGU personnel involved in the checkpoint and subsequent pursuit operation.
Dasugo cited the operating units for their swift response and effective coordination, which led to the prompt location and arrest of the fleeing suspect.
The case remains under police investigation as authorities complete the necessary documentation and legal procedures concerning the seized ammunition and the alleged violation of the firearms law.
