GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — September 12, 2026 — Most parts of Mindanao are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).
The regional forecast, issued at 5:00 a.m. on September 12, is valid from 5:00 a.m. Saturday until 5:00 a.m. Sunday. PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms may bring flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas that receive intense or prolonged rainfall.
The weather pattern is expected to affect communities across the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
PAGASA said winds across Mindanao will generally be light to moderate, coming from the northwest to northeast, while coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights generally ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
Zamboanga Peninsula
Across Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City, partly cloudy skies are forecast to become cloudy at times, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible.
Temperatures in Zamboanga City are expected to range from 25°C to 33°C, rising to as high as 36°C during the succeeding forecast period.
Zamboanga del Norte may see temperatures between 25°C and 33°C, increasing to 35°C, while Zamboanga del Sur is forecast to range from 23°C to 32°C, rising to 34°C.
Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City are both expected to experience temperatures of around 24°C to 32°C, with maximum temperatures reaching 34°C in the following period.
Coastal waters throughout the peninsula are expected to remain slight to moderate.
Northern Mindanao
Residents of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental can likewise expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Bukidnon is forecast to have temperatures between 18°C and 32°C, potentially reaching 34°C, making it one of the cooler areas in the region.
Camiguin may experience temperatures of 28°C to 34°C, rising to 36°C, while Lanao del Norte is expected to range from 21°C to 30°C, increasing to 31°C.
Misamis Occidental is forecast to record 25°C to 31°C, with temperatures reaching 33°C, while Misamis Oriental may experience 26°C to 31°C, increasing to 33°C.
The coastal provinces are expected to have slight to moderate seas.
Davao Region
The entire Davao Region is also included in the forecast for intermittent rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Metro Davao is expected to experience temperatures of 26°C to 31°C, with highs of around 33°C in the succeeding period.
Davao del Norte may record 24°C to 34°C, increasing to 36°C, while Davao del Sur is forecast to range from 23°C to 31°C, rising to 33°C.
Davao Oriental may experience cooler conditions, with temperatures between 22°C and 29°C, increasing to 31°C. Davao de Oro is expected to range from 22°C to 32°C, with temperatures potentially reaching 34°C.
Davao Occidental is forecast to have temperatures of 24°C to 31°C, rising to 33°C.
Coastal waters in the region are expected to remain slight to moderate.
SOCCSKSARGEN
The forecast also covers North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani, where partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected.
North Cotabato may experience temperatures from 25°C to 33°C, with highs of 35°C during the succeeding period.
South Cotabato is forecast to range from 23°C to 31°C, rising to 33°C, while Sultan Kudarat may experience 23°C to 32°C, increasing to 34°C.
Sarangani is expected to have temperatures between 24°C and 32°C, with highs reaching 34°C.
Coastal conditions in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are forecast to remain slight to moderate.
Caraga
Across Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands, PAGASA is likewise forecasting partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Agusan del Norte may experience temperatures of 25°C to 34°C, increasing to 36°C, while Agusan del Sur is expected to range from 24°C to 34°C, with temperatures potentially reaching 36°C.
Surigao del Norte may record 25°C to 33°C, rising to 35°C, while Surigao del Sur is forecast to range from 25°C to 31°C, increasing to 34°C.
Dinagat Islands may experience temperatures between 27°C and 34°C, with highs of up to 36°C.
Coastal waters in the Caraga provinces are expected to remain slight to moderate.
BARMM
Communities across the Bangsamoro region, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, are also expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Cotabato City may experience temperatures from 25°C to 32°C, increasing to 34°C. Basilan is forecast to range from 23°C to 31°C, rising to 34°C, while Lanao del Sur may see temperatures between 22°C and 31°C, increasing to 33°C.
In the island provinces, Sulu is expected to range from 25°C to 33°C, rising to 35°C, while Tawi-Tawi may experience 27°C to 33°C, increasing to 35°C.
Maguindanao del Norte is forecast to have temperatures between 24°C and 33°C, with highs potentially reaching 36°C. Maguindanao del Sur may experience 25°C to 33°C, also increasing to around 36°C.
Coastal waters in the island and coastal areas of BARMM are expected to remain slight to moderate.
PAGASA urges caution during thunderstorms
While the regional forecast does not indicate continuous widespread rainfall across Mindanao, the possibility of localized thunderstorms means weather conditions may change rapidly in specific areas.
PAGASA’s warning on possible flash floods and landslides is particularly important for communities located near rivers, creeks, waterways, steep slopes and other flood- or landslide-prone areas. Heavy rainfall from severe thunderstorms can produce sudden rises in water levels and trigger slope failures even when surrounding areas are experiencing only intermittent rain.
Residents are advised to monitor official weather bulletins, especially when thunderstorms develop nearby, and to take precautions when traveling during periods of heavy rain.
Motorists should exercise additional caution on roads where visibility may suddenly deteriorate or where floodwaters, mud and debris may accumulate.
Fishing communities, boat operators and other coastal residents should also remain alert to changing conditions, although PAGASA currently forecasts only slight to moderate seas and light to moderate winds from the northwest to northeast.
