CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Most parts of Mindanao will continue to experience generally fair weather punctuated by isolated rainshowers and localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, according to the latest regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).
In its 5:00 AM forecast issued on August 5, 2026, PAGASA said Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms from 5:00 AM Wednesday until 5:00 AM Thursday.
Despite the generally favorable weather conditions, the state weather bureau warned that localized severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying, flood-prone, and mountainous areas.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, especially during the afternoon and evening when thunderstorm activity typically intensifies.
Light to Moderate Winds Across Mindanao
PAGASA reported that light to moderate winds blowing from the south to southwest will prevail across the island throughout the forecast period.
Meanwhile, coastal waters around Mindanao will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters, making sea travel generally safe for most small fishing vessels. However, mariners are still advised to monitor weather updates as thunderstorms may develop rapidly and create rougher sea conditions.
Weather Conditions Across Regions
The forecast indicates largely similar weather conditions across Mindanao’s six administrative regions.
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Isabela City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay, residents can expect partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times with scattered rainshowers or thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures will range between 32°C and 34°C, while nighttime temperatures will settle between 24°C and 25°C.
Across Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are likewise expected. Bukidnon will experience the coolest temperatures on the island, with lows of 19°C, while daytime highs across the region will reach 32°C to 34°C.
The Davao Region, comprising Davao City (Metro Davao), Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will continue to experience warm weather with occasional thunderstorms. Temperatures are forecast to range between 24°C and 33°C, with coastal conditions remaining slight to moderate.
In SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, residents should also anticipate partly cloudy skies interrupted by localized thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range from 23°C to 33°C, with coastal provinces experiencing generally calm sea conditions.
The Caraga Region, composed of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, may experience some of the warmest daytime temperatures in Mindanao, reaching as high as 35°C, alongside isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rainshowers or thunderstorms. Temperatures across the region will range from 24°C to 34°C, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate.
Public Advised to Stay Alert
Although no widespread weather disturbance is currently affecting Mindanao, PAGASA emphasized that localized thunderstorms can rapidly develop and produce intense rainfall, strong winds, and lightning, posing risks to communities.
Residents living near rivers, creeks, mountain slopes, and other flood- and landslide-prone areas are advised to remain alert and monitor the latest weather bulletins. Motorists are also encouraged to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall due to possible reduced visibility and slippery road conditions.
Fisherfolk and operators of small sea vessels should continue monitoring marine forecasts before venturing offshore, particularly when thunderstorms are expected.
PAGASA said it will continue to closely monitor weather conditions across Mindanao and issue updates should significant changes develop.
