DAVAO CITY – A 41-year-old man identified by police as the son of a barangay captain in Davao City’s third district was arrested in a late-night anti-drug operation that led to the seizure of more than ₱1 million worth of suspected shabu, authorities said.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Loy,” was apprehended by operatives of the Calinan Police Station during a buy-bust operation conducted at around 11:07 p.m. on June 30 in Purok 6B, Barangay Riverside, Calinan District.

According to Police Major Ma. Teresita Gaspan, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the suspect is a 41-year-old married resident of Purok 2, Barangay Dacudao, Calinan District and had been classified as a High-Value Target (HVT) in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Police said the operation began after an undercover officer successfully purchased a sachet of suspected shabu weighing approximately 5 grams from the suspect for ₱16,000, providing the basis for his immediate arrest.

A subsequent body search and inventory of evidence resulted in the recovery of three more large sachets containing suspected shabu.

Authorities said the confiscated illegal drugs had a total estimated weight of 150 grams with an estimated street value of ₱1.02 million, marking one of the significant anti-drug seizures in the Calinan District this year.

The seized narcotics were turned over for laboratory examination and proper documentation as part of the case build-up.

The suspect is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, particularly for the illegal sale and possession of dangerous drugs.

Meanwhile, police said the investigation remains ongoing to determine whether other individuals are involved in the suspect’s alleged illegal drug activities and to identify the source of the confiscated narcotics.

The DCPO has reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-illegal drug operations across Davao City, emphasizing that law enforcement actions are carried out regardless of a suspect’s family background or social standing.
