TARRAGONA, Davao Oriental — The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) has launched an ongoing search and rescue operation for a 43-year-old fisherman who was reported missing while engaged in a fishing activity off the coast of Tarragona, Davao Oriental.

The missing fisherman was identified as Jess Kevin Amprado, a resident of Tarragona.

According to the CGDSEM, Amprado was reported missing at around 7:30 a.m. on August 17, 2026, while aboard the motorized fishing boat “BFAR,” approximately 15 nautical miles off Barangay Central, Tarragona.

Amprado was expected to return home after the fishing activity but failed to arrive, prompting authorities and concerned maritime stakeholders to initiate efforts to determine his whereabouts.

The Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental, operating under the CGDSEM, is currently conducting search and rescue operations for Amprado. The Coast Guard said the operation is being carried out in coordination with local authorities and other maritime stakeholders.

Search efforts remain ongoing as authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess the conditions at sea. Operations will continue as weather and sea conditions permit, according to the Coast Guard.

The incident underscores the risks faced by fishermen and other members of the maritime community, particularly those operating offshore where changing sea and weather conditions can complicate search and rescue operations.

The CGDSEM has appealed to the public and members of the maritime community to immediately report any information that could help authorities locate Amprado.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental at 0966 837 0536.

The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao said it continues to closely monitor the situation and remains committed to protecting the safety of fishermen and other maritime stakeholders.

Authorities have yet to report the circumstances surrounding Amprado’s disappearance or any confirmed sighting following the start of the search operation.
