Cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected to prevail over the Caraga and Davao regions as a trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) continues to affect large parts of Mindanao, according to the latest regional weather forecast issued by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) on Friday morning, May 23.

The weather bureau warned that moderate to at times heavy rains could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas across the affected regions.

Under the forecast valid from 5:00 a.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Saturday, provinces in the Caraga Region — including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands — are expected to experience cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the day and evening.

Similarly, the entire Davao Region, including Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will continue to experience cloudy weather conditions with intermittent rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the Davao Region are forecast to range between 23°C and 33°C during the daytime, cooling to around 23°C to 30°C overnight.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao, including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA said severe thunderstorms in these areas may still trigger localized flash floods or landslides.

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, areas such as Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City are expected to experience occasional rainshowers and thunderstorms with daytime temperatures reaching up to 34°C.

Across Northern Mindanao, provinces such as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rainshowers and thunderstorms.

In the SOCCSKSARGEN Region, including South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and North Cotabato, weather conditions are expected to remain unstable with intermittent thunderstorms and temperatures ranging from 22°C to 34°C.

The BARMM provinces, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, are likewise expected to experience isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

PAGASA said winds across Mindanao will remain light to moderate coming from the northeast to north, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

Authorities advised residents in landslide-prone and flood-prone communities to remain vigilant, especially during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Fisherfolk and small seacraft operators were also encouraged to continue monitoring weather advisories before venturing into the sea.
