MINDANAO — Most parts of Mindanao are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms from Tuesday, August 25, until Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).
In its 5:00 a.m. regional weather forecast issued August 25, 2026, PAGASA said the entire Mindanao region will generally experience partly cloudy skies that may become cloudy at times, with rainshowers or thunderstorms possible in various areas.
While the forecast does not indicate widespread continuous rainfall across the region, PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas that receive intense or prolonged rainfall.
Residents in flood-prone, landslide-prone and mountainous communities are therefore urged to remain alert, especially during periods of heavy thunderstorms.
Rainshowers and thunderstorms expected across Mindanao
The same weather pattern is expected across the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City, partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy conditions with rainshowers or thunderstorms are forecast throughout the period. Temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 35°C, depending on the locality.
Northern Mindanao will also remain vulnerable to localized thunderstorms. Bukidnon is forecast to have temperatures between 20°C and 33°C, while Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental may experience temperatures reaching as high as 35°C.
In the Davao Region, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms are likewise expected in Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental. Temperatures are generally expected to reach between 31°C and 33°C during the forecast period.
The earlier regional forecast issued at 5:00 p.m. on August 24 also placed Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental under the same weather condition, with temperatures potentially reaching 36°C in Davao de Oro and 32°C in Davao Occidental.
SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga also under thunderstorm watch
In SOCCSKSARGEN, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani are expected to experience similar weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from the low 20s to the mid-30s Celsius.
Sultan Kudarat could reach 35°C, while North Cotabato may reach 34°C. Sarangani is expected to remain slightly cooler, with temperatures of about 25°C to 32°C.
The entire Caraga Region is also forecast to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur may reach temperatures of up to 35°C and 34°C, respectively, while Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur could reach 35°C. Dinagat Islands may experience temperatures between 26°C and 35°C.
BARMM areas face similar conditions
PAGASA also forecast isolated rainshowers and localized thunderstorms across the BARMM.
Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur are all expected to experience partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times, accompanied by rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Temperatures in the region could range from 21°C to 34°C, with Lanao del Sur expected to have some of the coolest conditions and Maguindanao del Norte potentially reaching 34°C.
For Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, temperatures may range from 25°C to 33°C, while Basilan could experience temperatures between 25°C and 33°C.
Winds and sea conditions
PAGASA said winds across Mindanao will generally be light to moderate from the south to southwest.
Coastal waters will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights generally ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
The conditions may allow normal maritime activities in many areas, but fishermen, boat operators and other coastal communities are still advised to exercise caution whenever thunderstorms develop, as localized changes in wind and sea conditions can occur during severe weather.
Flash floods and landslides remain the main hazards
PAGASA’s warning on possible flash floods and landslides is particularly significant for communities located near rivers, streams, steep slopes and other areas susceptible to rapid runoff or slope failure.
Localized thunderstorms can produce intense rainfall over a relatively short period. Even when rainfall is not widespread across an entire province, concentrated downpours may cause waterways to rise quickly and trigger flooding in low-lying communities.
Motorists traveling through mountainous and landslide-prone roads are likewise advised to remain vigilant for sudden flooding, falling rocks, debris and unstable slopes during or after heavy thunderstorms.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official weather bulletins and local government advisories, particularly when thunderstorms become persistent or intensify in their area.
The forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on August 25, 2026, is valid until 5:00 a.m. on August 26, 2026.
