The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that much of Mindanao will experience cloudy to partly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers over the next 24 hours as the Northeast Monsoon continues to influence the region’s weather.

In its regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. Saturday by the PAGASA Mindanao Regional Services Division, the agency said the Caraga region will experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the prevailing Northeast Monsoon, locally known as amihan. Areas likely to be affected include Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.

Weather forecasters warned that eastern sections of Mindanao will also experience moderate to strong winds blowing from the north to northeast, which may produce moderate to rough seas ranging from 2.5 to 3.7 meters. Fisherfolk and small sea vessels operating along the eastern coastline are advised to take precautionary measures due to potentially hazardous sea conditions.

Across the Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers are expected as the Northeast Monsoon continues to influence the weather pattern. Provinces including Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Misamis Oriental may experience intermittent rainfall throughout the day.

In Zamboanga City, light rains were recorded early Saturday morning with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 31°C, while conditions may shift to partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers later in the day as temperatures rise slightly to around 32°C.

Northern Mindanao provinces such as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also see partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with occasional isolated rains. Temperatures in the region are expected to range from 17°C in the highland areas of Bukidnon to as high as 34°C in parts of Lanao del Norte.

Meanwhile, the Davao Region will experience partly cloudy skies that may occasionally turn cloudy with rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized weather disturbances. Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental could see sporadic thunderstorms throughout the day, particularly during the afternoon and evening.

Stronger winds are forecast along the eastern coastal areas of Davao Oriental, where moderate to strong northerly winds may generate moderate to rough sea conditions. Temperatures in the region are expected to range between 21°C and 33°C.

In the SOCCSKSARGEN region, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, the weather will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with occasional rain showers or thunderstorms triggered by localized thunderstorms. Temperatures could peak at 35°C in parts of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, making them among the warmest areas in Mindanao for the day.

Similarly, areas within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) — including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi — will experience generally partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rain showers or thunderstorms.

Wind conditions across most of western and central Mindanao will remain light to moderate coming from the northeast, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

PAGASA advised residents to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to localized flooding and landslides during thunderstorms. Fisherfolk and small sea craft operators along the eastern seaboards are also urged to monitor weather advisories as rough sea conditions may persist due to the strengthening Northeast Monsoon.

The weather bureau continues to monitor atmospheric conditions across Mindanao and encourages the public to stay updated through official bulletins and advisories.
