EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of scattered rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds across much of Mindanao as the Easterlies continue to affect the region, with the highest risks of flooding and landslides expected in parts of Caraga and eastern Mindanao.

In its 5:00 a.m. regional forecast issued on January 11, 2026, PAGASA said Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, which may lead to possible flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.

“The public is advised to remain vigilant, particularly in flood-prone communities and areas near slopes, as moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger sudden flooding or landslides,” PAGASA said.

Strong Winds, Rough Seas in Eastern Mindanao

PAGASA noted that moderate to strong winds from the east to northeast will prevail over the eastern sections of Mindanao, including parts of the Davao Region, Caraga, and Eastern Mindanao, resulting in moderate to rough seas ranging from 1.5 to 2.8 meters.

Fisherfolk and small sea craft operators were advised to exercise caution or avoid sailing, particularly in the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental, Surigao provinces, and Dinagat Islands.

Elsewhere in Mindanao, light to moderate winds from the northeast to east will bring slight to moderate sea conditions with wave heights of 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

Zamboanga Peninsula: Warm with Isolated Thunderstorms

Across the Zamboanga Peninsula — including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City — weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy with rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures are expected to range from 23°C to 33°C, with light to moderate northeast to east winds and slight to moderate coastal conditions.

Northern Mindanao: Rainshowers, Cooler Highlands

In Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Bukidnon will be cooler, with temperatures dipping to 20°C, while coastal areas like Camiguin and Misamis Oriental will range between 25°C and 31°C. Winds will remain light to moderate from the northeast to east.

Davao Region: Gusty Winds, Rough Coastal Waters

The Davao Region — covering Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental — will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms, accompanied by moderate to strong winds from the east to northeast.

Coastal areas, particularly in Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental, may encounter moderate to rough seas, while temperatures will range from 22°C to 31°C.

SOCCSKSARGEN: Warm Days, Passing Rains

In SOCCSKSARGEN (North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani), PAGASA forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast to east, and temperatures may reach up to 32°C.

Caraga: Highest Risk Areas

The Caraga Region remains among the most affected, with Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands under cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms, and moderate to strong winds bringing rough seas.

Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur will also experience unsettled weather with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 32°C. PAGASA emphasized the risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in upland and riverine communities.

BARMM: Isolated Thunderstorms, Warm Temperatures

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) — including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur — weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy with rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast to east, seas will be slight to moderate, and temperatures will range from 20°C to 33°C.

PAGASA urged residents, local disaster risk reduction offices, and travelers to monitor official weather updates, prepare for possible flooding and landslides, and take necessary precautions, especially in eastern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao regions.
