PAGASA warns of possible floods, landslides as system moves westward
MINDANAO — Tropical Depression Wilma continued to dump rains and generate gusty winds across several parts of Mindanao on Saturday, December 6, according to the 5:00 AM regional forecast issued by PAGASA–MINPRSD.
As of 3:00 AM, the center of Wilma was located 70 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar at coordinates 11.7°N, 126.1°E, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h. The weather system is moving westward at 15 km/h, bringing disruptive weather conditions over Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and nearby areas.
Areas with Rains and Gusty Winds
PAGASA said Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will experience rains with gusty winds directly associated with TD Wilma.
These conditions may bring moderate to heavy, at times intense rainfall, raising the risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas. Strong winds in these provinces pose a minimal to minor threat to life and property.
Cloudy, Rainy Weather Over Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao
The Zamboanga Peninsula, the rest of Caraga, and the rest of Northern Mindanao will continue to see cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the day. These areas may also experience flooding and landslides due to sustained moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms brought by localized thunderstorms.
Strong Winds and Rough Seas
Moderate to strong winds from the Northeast to Northwest will prevail over the western sections of Mindanao, causing moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 2.8 meters).
Elsewhere, winds from the Northwest to Southwest will continue to produce moderate seas (1.2 to 2.5 meters).
PAGASA strongly advises small fishing boats and other small vessels to refrain from venturing into the sea, especially in areas affected by strong winds and rough coastal conditions.
