Mindanao is expected to experience generally fair to cloudy weather with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms from early Christmas Day until Thursday morning, December 25–26, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 5:00 a.m. regional weather forecast for the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the state weather bureau said the prevailing Easterlies—warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean—will continue to affect most parts of the island. These conditions may trigger localized downpours and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

PAGASA warned residents in low-lying and mountainous areas to remain alert, as flash floods and landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms, especially in areas with saturated soil or poor drainage.

Winds and sea conditions

Across Mindanao, light to moderate winds from the northeast are expected, bringing slight to moderate sea conditions with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters. Small seacraft operators, particularly along eastern and southern seaboards, are advised to exercise caution.

Regional outlook

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy with occasional rainshowers or thunderstorms. Temperatures are forecast to range from 23°C to 34°C, while coastal waters remain slight to moderate.

Northern Mindanao—covering Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental—will experience similar weather conditions. Temperatures will range from 20°C to 33°C, with coastal areas seeing slight to moderate seas.

In the Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail. Temperatures may climb up to 34°C, particularly in inland and urban areas.

The SOCCSKSARGEN Region—North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani—is also expected to see intermittent rains and thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 35°C.

For the Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, PAGASA forecasts occasional rainshowers and thunderstorms, with temperatures between 22°C and 31°C.

Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)—covering Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur—will also experience generally fair to cloudy conditions with isolated rains. Temperatures in some areas may reach up to 36°C, especially in Maguindanao and Cotabato City.
