September 1, 2025 – Mindanao

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has advised residents of Mindanao to brace for rainy weather today, September 1, 2025, as the southwest monsoon (habagat) continues to affect the island’s northern sections while a Low Pressure Area (LPA) lingers east of Luzon.

As of 3:00 a.m., the LPA was located 570 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (14.6°N, 129.4°E). While the weather disturbance remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), its presence is enhancing the southwest monsoon, bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms in several Mindanao provinces.

Heavy Rains Over Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Zamboanga Peninsula

PAGASA reported that the Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. The state weather bureau warned of possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

Specific forecasts for the provinces under these regions include:

  • Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City – Cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms; coastal waters slight to moderate; temperature range: 23–32°C.
  • Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands – Cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms; temperatures from 24–32°C.
  • Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental – Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms at times; temperatures between 21–32°C.

Partly Cloudy to Cloudy Weather for the Rest of Mindanao

The Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will generally have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with localized rain showers or thunderstorms, also due to the southwest monsoon.

  • Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental – Partly cloudy to cloudy with rain showers or thunderstorms; temperatures 23–33°C.
  • North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani – Partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with scattered rains; temperatures 22–32°C.
  • Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur – Similar weather conditions with light to moderate winds and coastal waters slight to moderate; temperatures ranging from 22–34°C.

Winds and Sea Conditions

Across Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest to west, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters—generally safe for fishing and small vessels, but caution is still advised during thunderstorms.

PAGASA Advisory

The weather bureau reminded residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas, particularly in Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Zamboanga Peninsula, to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures. PAGASA also advised the public to monitor updates through official channels, especially if the LPA east of Luzon develops further.
