August 30, 2025 – Mindanao Regional Weather Update
Residents in several parts of Mindanao are being advised to prepare for possible heavy rains and thunderstorms today, August 30, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported the presence of two Low-Pressure Areas (LPAs) along with the continued effect of the Southwest Monsoon.
As of 3:00 AM, one LPA was located about 90 kilometers east northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte (14.5°N, 123.7°E), while another disturbance was spotted 900 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas (10.8°N, 133.0°E). Though neither system has yet developed into a tropical depression, forecasters warned that their presence enhances the Southwest Monsoon, which is now affecting large parts of Mindanao.
Rainy Conditions in Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Zamboanga Peninsula
According to PAGASA-Mindanao (MINPRSD), Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the day. Moderate to at times heavy downpours may lead to flash floods and landslides, especially in flood-prone and mountainous areas.
In Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay, as well as Isabela City (Basilan), temperatures will range from 22°C to 31°C, with light to moderate winds coming from the west to southwest. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate (0.6 to 1.5 meters).
Northern Mindanao provinces such as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will likewise see persistent rainshowers and thunderstorms, with daily temperatures between 20°C and 31°C.
In the Caraga region—including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and the Dinagat Islands—residents should brace for day-long rains and thunderstorms, with highs of 30°C and lows around 23°C.
Partly Cloudy to Cloudy Skies in Davao Region and SOCCSKSARGEN
The rest of Mindanao, particularly Davao Region and SOCCSKSARGEN, will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with possible localized rainshowers or thunderstorms.
- Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, and Davao de Oro can expect relatively fair weather, although brief heavy rains may occur in the afternoon or evening. Temperatures will hover between 23°C and 30°C.
- In North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, morning skies may remain partly clear, but conditions are forecast to shift to cloudy with rains and thunderstorms by evening.
BARMM Weather Outlook
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will generally experience partly cloudy skies during the first half of the day, but cloudy skies with thunderstorms are expected by tonight.
- Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi all share the same weather pattern, with forecast temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C.
Winds and Seas
Across Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the west to southwest. Coastal conditions remain slight to moderate, with waves reaching up to 1.5 meters, safe for small to medium-sized vessels but still requiring caution during thunderstorms.
Public Advisory
PAGASA forecasters reminded the public to stay alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly in Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao, where rains could intensify at times. Fisherfolk and residents in coastal areas are likewise advised to monitor updates, especially with the presence of two LPAs east of Luzon and Visayas.
