DAPA, Surigao del Norte — A high-value drug suspect was arrested during a joint anti-illegal drugs operation at the Philippine Ports Authority premises in Barangay 7, Poblacion, Dapa, on Wednesday morning, August 27.
Police Colonel Warren E. Dablo, Provincial Director of the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office, identified the suspect as alias “Nel,” a 37-year-old self-employed resident of Surigao City.
At around 10:00 a.m., operatives from the Dapa Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine Coast Guard, conducted a random panel inspection on passengers of MV Pilar Tuna arriving from Surigao City. The operation led to the arrest of “Nel,” who was found in possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Authorities seized three plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing about 60 grams, with an estimated street value of ₱408,000. Also recovered were 1.4 grams of suspected dried marijuana leaves worth ₱168, ₱41,500 in cash, a weighing scale, several lighters, an improvised needle breaker, and a mobile phone.
The suspect is facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“The Surigao del Norte police remain committed to eradicating illegal drugs in the province, continuing operations until the last suspect is caught. We pledge to ensure the safety and security of the communities we serve,” said Col. Dablo.
The suspect and the confiscated items are now under the custody of the Dapa Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.
