Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office, October 28, 2024 — In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in Surigao del Norte, police from the Dapa Municipal Police Station’s Drug Enforcement Unit successfully confiscated over PHP 181,000 worth of illegal substances during a buy-bust operation on October 27, 2024.
The operation took place at approximately 10:30 AM in Barangay 6, Poblacion, Dapa, Siargao Island. A street-level suspect, identified as a 39-year-old self-employed individual from Barangay Union, known by the alias “Red,” was arrested for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
During the operation, law enforcement seized seventeen heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing a total of 26.649 grams, with a street value of PHP 181,213.20. In addition, police recovered PHP 20,900 in cash in various denominations and a black Honda Beat motorcycle, plate number 896 ZEE.
PCOL Nilo T. Texon, Officer-in-Charge of the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office, emphasized the ongoing commitment of the police to combat drug trafficking, which he noted significantly contributes to local crime and violence. “Our operations are focused on protecting communities in Surigao del Norte,” Texon stated. “We assure the public that our efforts against drug dealers will continue relentlessly. We will not rest until the illegal drug trade is completely eradicated.”
The arrested individual and the confiscated items have been turned over to the Dapa Municipal Police Station for further processing. The police department remains steadfast in its mission to create a safer environment for the residents of Surigao del Norte.
