CARMEN, Surigao del Sur – July 28, 2025 — In a major step towards maintaining peace and security in Surigao del Sur, government troops from the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army, successfully recovered a cache of firearms and explosives in Barangay Pangi, Tandag City.
The operation, carried out under the operational control of the 901st Infantry (Fight ‘Em) Brigade, was launched following actionable intelligence from local sources. Soldiers recovered one 7.62mm M14 rifle, six empty M14 magazines, one bandolier, and five rifle grenades believed to be remnants of New People’s Army (NPA) stockpiles.
Lieutenant Colonel Joselito B. Ante Jr., Acting Commanding Officer of the 36IB, led the operation and lauded the troops for their discipline and professionalism in executing the mission without incident.
“This accomplishment is a clear testament to the unwavering dedication and discipline of our soldiers in the pursuit of lasting peace,” said LTC Ante. “We will continue to build on these gains until we eliminate the threats to our communities and bring genuine peace and development.”
The Philippine Army believes the operation’s success is a result of strengthened ties with local communities, whose trust and cooperation have been instrumental in counterinsurgency efforts.
The military continues to urge remaining armed rebels to lay down their weapons and take advantage of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which offers livelihood assistance, skills training, and reintegration support.
The Philippine Army emphasized its commitment to sustained military operations and community engagements in line with its mission to serve the people and secure the land.
